G D Em C
Verses:
Em C
Kody sat down on the avenue
Em C
He tapped his feet to the humming of the highway
Em C
He watched the light shine down on the broken glass
G D Em
And thought well I don't got no reasons yet
C
There it is and there it was
Em C
Now it was clear to all of us
Em C
We kept this hat of broken dreams
G D C
And we pulled it out when we needed them around
Chorus:
G D Em C
So please hand me the bottle I think I'm lonely now
G D Asus2
And please give me direction I think the hurt set in
C Bm G D/F# Em
And I don't feel nothin'
C Em C
Verse chords:
There's a squeak hinge down on the back gate
It lets us know if he comes around
But I don't sleep that good anyway now
G D C
And if you've never heard that sound it's a God-awful sound
Chorus:
So please hand me the bottle I think I'm lonely now
And please give me direction I think I just caved in
C Bm G D/F# Em G D/F# Em
And I don't feel nothin'
C
Hey I don't feel nothin' hey I don't feel nothin'
D
There's nothin' to feel good about here
Verse Chords:
I don't much get down onto the avenue
Well I could drive but it takes so much to get there
Don't get off on all the broken glass the Cadillac scene
Well I've seen a lot of good things die and I'm in an over-emotional way
Chorus 2x
So please hand me the bottle I think I'm lonely now
And please give me direction I think the hurt sets in
Hey well please hand me the bottle well I think I'm lonely now
I'm lonely now I'm lonely now hold me now hold me now
And please give me direction I think I just caved in
C
But it ain't nothin'

| I agree with what some said before, that it's probibly about a close friend that really has no direction in life, has trouble sleeping at night and wanders the streets late at night aimlessly drinking his pain away (first set of lyrics) , he worries about him and stays awake everynight hoping that he doesent do anything folish and get in an accident or in some sort of trouble(There's a squeak hinge down on the back gate It lets us know if he comes around I don't sleep that good anyway If you've never heard the silence, it's a God awful sound), but one night there wasnt and sign of him, later to only find out that he got in a car accident and died, in his cadillac, they all sort of knew that something like this would happen, so they mourn on the inside but are numb to the issue on the out side. (I could drive, but it takes so much to get there)(I think the hurt set in And I don't feel nothing ) | |

| This song is probably my favourite on YOSLY. My interpretation of the song is a little different than most of the ones written so far. In my mind, this song is about the death of James Dean. This 'Kody' character could be any fan of Dean. When Dean died, many people (especially teens) felt like something inside them died. A few even commited suicide. I wasn't alive when Dean died, but it's understandable how many of them felt. And Kody could of been one of them. And this song is telling a story of his anguish. The first verse could be saying that Kody has arrived at the wreck, eyeing the wreck that was caused by the fatal accident. His idol was dead, but he never got the chance to really know him. And he feels like he's got nothing else to give for. The chorus... well, could mean that he's trying to forget about all his pains at the bottom of a bottle, feeling like there's no one in the world that understands him. But he's still in shock about the crash. The second verse could signify either Kody or Dean. In Dean's case, it's rather simple. With his death, he cannot go home, or walk the earth ever again. In Kody's case, it could mean that his life is totally changed, and he can't find a 'home' anymore. That's why the squeak hinge won't open or close. The last verse may reflect Kody's thoughts. After being forced to accept Dean's death, he doesn't want to have to look at the wreck of the fatal accident anymore. The glass, the twisted metal, the reminder. The only flaw of my theory is that they mention a Cadillac, and not a Porsche. And the last line... well, 'alot of good things die'. It kinda speaks for itself. Dean's stellar career was tragically cut short, and the mourning's still there. Well, that's my interpretation. It's a little lengthly, but it almost works. (Btw I'm a big Dean fan :D) | |

| well, i know that kody was a real person, but for me the lyrics mean having no reason to commit suicide and then getting so fed up with being left out you just do it. | |

| I heard Rob Thomas wrote it after a coming back from a funeral of a littl boy named Cody who died from a complicated surgery that was i think 2 years old or something. Cody is little boy on the inside of the Yourself or Someone Like You cd booklet. | |
