| One part of the song I don't get is the lines: "You said the distance Would make a difference But it didn't." To me this kind of goes against the rest of the song, which seems to suggest that the distance is making a difference. Anyone agree? Disagree? | |

| usually when one uses asterisks (esp. in advertising) it usually means, look for the other asterisk @ the bottom of the page or whatever... kinda like, reading the fine print. or finding out what the catch is-- so... it's like these girls all have ulterior motives, and that they aren't quite what they seem to be. | |

| catches the energy of a show, y'know what i mean? reminds me of me in some ways.... and school is a factory. i think what really gets us all about shows etc. is the fact that all the people there probably don't know everybody there but we all get along. everyone's there for this one thing we all have in common (i.e. the band and the music) and that's just so fucking awesome!! because, for the most part, there's no hard feelings after a show and everyone's there to just kick back and have fun... and the best part? everybody knows that!! and i think this song really reflects the freedom everybody feels when they go to a concert.... | |

| "You said the distance Would make a difference But it didn't." My take on that line is perhaps she said to him: "Hey when i move away, i'll be too far away and you'll get over me" And he didn't. | |

| Every time I hear this song I remember the first time I went to see the Matches (4 years back...). "Our handstamps fade, and I cringe at the stupid names we're called." Yup. That's a local show, all right. The Matches ROCK for all the L3's that I've gone to over the years. They play in San Rafael tonight! | |

| I think this song is about a guy that likes a girl and like Ruthless said she is really conceited "But you and me, we're both in love with you. " You and me which I would assume he is talking about himself and the girl. | |

| A little i guess! This song's klass, everyone's basically summed up the idea of the song but yeh, it's essentially about this lad being in love with this self-obsessed girl that probably goes back to him when she's got problems, i like the 'dog eared page' metaphor, clever... | |

| I always thought the song was about a guy liking a girl, but she's too involved with herself to pay much attention to him. Kinda like he's her not-so-random hook up, but he wants to be more. On the "friends" in quotes thing, I'm pretty sure that he means that the are just superficial friends. Its a sarcastic view of them. He knows they're not really his friends, but they act like it are to his face. People used to do the little quote thing all the time w/ their fingers when they were being sarcastic. Thats my take on it anyways. | |

| this song is probably about a girl that he likes..and another guy likes her...either that or when he says "were both in love with you" can mean that she's really concieted and has no time for him. i don't really get this line though: I've got these "friends" in quotes and girls* with asterisks meh whatever, matches are awesome. | |

| I agree with the collage/someplace idea. It seems like he's in love with a girl that went off to collage (etc.) and he suspects that she's dating a guy there behind his back (and that her roommate is lying to him), but wants to keep him as an option back home if this relationship falls through. Now, he's back at home without her, and he's seeing himself in the same routine, going to lame parties. The line "I've got these "friends" in quotes / and girls* with asterisks" is him saying he doesn't have any real/good friends, and he's got girls that he's close to, but none that he's dating (becasue he's with the girl at collage). The line "You said the distance / Would make a difference / But it didn't" could be that him and her were having problems before she left, and she told him that going away could help this. | |

| One part of the song I don't get is the lines: "You said the distance Would make a difference But it didn't." To me this kind of goes against the rest of the song, which seems to suggest that the distance is making a difference. Anyone agree? Disagree? | |

| i agree with linds, eh. a 'dog-eared page you turn back to,' its cool how he phrases it. always refereing to a page in a book where you bend the corner, always going back for more. | |
