I personally think that this song isn't to any girl or person in particular, but it basically says that the world cannot be described in words. That it must be experienced to understand it. And that there are some things that really have to be shared.

"Today I finally overcame tryin' to fit the world inside a picture frame" John just says things in a way that no one else can.

Ok, I can't believe that no one has commented on this song. Has anyone ever heard it? You can listen to it while driving around Lake Tahoe - it makes perfect sense. Or Highway 1- it makes perfect sense. Or just have one single moment where you wished someone you loved was with you. John IS a nice guy. I met him after one of his shows (back in the good old days before his shows are thousands of people big and he played in coffee shops) SEE HIM LIVE - IT IS THE BEST.

John Mayer is so freakin awesome.....def. see him live. but this song is my new fav. cause my bf gave me a picture of a sunrise with the chorus written on the back...such a sweetie. i think john is basically saying that he doesnt want to be w/out that special someone at any minute....:) sharing something as beautiful as the sunrise .....or anything else for that matter!!

This song reminds me of my trip to Italy this summer. At the hotel we stayed in in Florence, there was a huge tiled deck and I slept outside with a friend of mine. We woke up just as it was starting to get light, and we watched the sunrise in Florence. That experience was indescribable, and the only thing that would have been better was if my boyfriend was there with me to see it... "You should have seen that sunrise With your own eyes It brought me back to life You'll be with me next time I go outside No more 3x5's"

Man, this guy is absolutely incredible. This song...I just saw him in concert not too long ago, and I remember him saygin that he wrote this song while driving from Vegas to Phoenix, AZ. If you havent seen the sunsets in AZ you ought to get your butts back west and check them out haha. Just beautiful. What a wonderful song to sum up those little "moments" in life when everything stands still...

This song reminds me of the night I bought this CD and drove up I-81 through the Pocono mountains to Ithaca, NY. It was in February and we were driving through blowing snow... it was so fun. This is by far the most fascinating song on the best CD of 2001.

This song reminded me of my best friend right away. I talked him into buying this CD and he decided this was his favorite song (I was right!) It really fits our friendship too. Some things are too big for words or pictures and you just wish that special person was by your side to experience it with you.

wow, what an amazing song, personally this the best song on the album. the first time i heard John was about an year ago. I was sitting in my dorm room and a friend of mine handed me this CD to check out. At that time MTV or radio never played. I remember this song stuck out the most. What a song. I love the line where he goes "Today, the skies are painted colors of a cowboy cliche'". Specially when he says "TODAY", its as if today is full of new hope and chances and its different from ne other day. John has an amazing way of using his warm and welcoming voice to convey so much. Not to mention he is a proficient guitar player.

By far my favorite John Mayer song. Things just aren't the same when you don't have that special person there. sometimes words just can't express what you want to, but that's ok, because the next time, that person will be there with you, and it will all be better

I just got back from spending a month in London. I was living in Southwark right next to the Globe doing some work there...so I had to cross the various bridges over the Thames every day. Walking across those bridges at night and staring at Big Ben or the Houses of Parliment. Looking at incredible architecture and the churches of long ago...totally reminded me of this song. You see...everyone I loved was back over the pond. After I would get my pictures developed there was no comparison to the beauty that I felt watching them. Which is what I think of this song. Sometimes we experience beauty and our loved ones just cannot enter into the picture. "I guess you had to be there." I can't even tell my friends about how beautiful it is because I "lose my way with words." And when you experience something truly incredible you "over{come} trying to fit the world inside a picture frame." Expanding your horizens...This is possibly my favorite John Mayer song. I like the creepy undertones in the music...and I think it's beautiful and truthful.

I love how the song just takes a turn at "you should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes." I dunno if it was a key change or what cuz I never really sat and thought about it, but I get a chill everytime. I always take in *moments* when I go outside...I wish I had someone to share them with. Beautiful song.

i went on a trip up the eastern seabord this summer and i had never been there ever. i took so many pictures but they really didnt capture the essence of it all. when i got them developed and showed them to my boyfriend, they just werent the same as i had hoped they would be. it didnt occur to me then, but that fit quite nicely with this song.

i think this song says soo much that people feel. it's so true. seeing the world through both of your eyes is something we don't do enough. i always go through my daily routine and don't thinkabout all the good stuff...all the things i need to be looking for. we drive down the highway of life and look ahead to the next big thing, but the stuff that is worth while is on the side of the road...waiting for us to see and take in. wow..i love this song!
