This song is amazing. I agree with everyone that it is harsh, yet passionate. I love the line.. "it's not the storm before the calm." Such a great way to say it wont get better after this stormy part of their relationship. The symbolism in the song is amazing. "My dear, we're slow dancin' in a burnin' room" def means they are in a doomed relationship but I like that it means so much more than that. It's a bad relationship that will just burn/scar them. The longer they stay, the more fatal it becomes and they can't keep ignoring it. "Don't you think we oughta know by now " LOVE IT

i never 'went out' with her this still disscribes us better than anything ive ever heard. "I was the one you always dreamed of You were the one I tried to draw How dare you say it's nothing to me Baby, you're the only light I ever saw" that part almost killed me. ha 1 2 3 Next

This song is so beautiful, it makes breaking up seem so sexy and passionate and all the pain worth it. I love when he says "I was the one you always dreamed of You were the one I tried to draw " its like they were a bad match from the beginning but loving eachother was like a drug that even though its bad for you its so addictive. In the end this passionate dance that their doing is doomed to end in an aweful breakup and he's just accepting the fact. It's so sexy how he can look at the transperant relationship and through all the blur be so real.

This song is just utterly heartbreaking and brilliant - hands down the best song off Continuum. So very sweet and harsh at once.

This song is so freakin' hot. For sure the best song off the new album. I love the harshness of how this was a passionate relationship but it's just gone to shit. He makes breaking up sound so beautiful.

This is completely different than anything he has done. It's harsh, "go cry about it why dont you..." I like it a lot though, it is a good song to motivate a break up. The song is almost like the play by play of the relationship falling apart. "Nobody's gonna come and save you. We pulled too many false alarms." Great line here: "I was the one you always dreamed of, you were the I always tried to draw..." Such a good line.

Its about being in a rocky on and off relationship. They keep getting back together, and this time they know that it is doomed from the start. they know it wont last. "they are in a burning room" the relationship will not last, and is eventual to end. time is running short. and they both can see that, their relationship is like a candle, and its about to burn out.

This song was the first one in the album that made me cry. Number two on intensity. It reminded me of someone whom I really loved. But like John says, we were doomed. No matter how I wanted to turn the player off, I couldn't because the pain felt familiar, and in a way, nice. We're that way sometimes. Even though in our minds and hearts, we know that something can't last, we fight for it because we like the pain, we love LOVE. I'm most moved by "You try to hit me just hurt me So you leave me feeling dirty Because you can't understand " ...I wanted to so much... But I couldn't... I'm falling all over again for John Mayer because when you listen to his songs, it's like his talking to you, telling you about his life..and you tell him, "Yeah, I know what you mean, John"...

this is a song that NOBODY understands. everybody thinks it's a break-up song, but it's not. It's about velcro and the sound it makes! "It's not a silly little moment It's not the storm before the calm This is the deep and dying breath of This love we've been working on" this verse describes the history of velcro when it was first created. "Can't seem to hold you like I want to So I can feel you in my arms Nobody's gonna come and save you We pulled too many false alarms" Like everything, velcro has its flaws. "We're going down And you can see it too We're going down And you know that we're doomed My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room" The creator of velcro got depressed when he was trying to fix the problems of it. He got WAY too over-emotional about it. He didn't need to, it wasn't a big deal. "I was the one you always dreamed of You were the one I tried to draw How dare you say it's nothing to me Baby, you're the only light I ever saw I'll make the most of all the sadness You'll be a bitch because you can You try to hit me just to hurt me So you leave me feeling dirty Because you can't understand" This is when the creator started to rebel against his own creation. He had a bad temper. "Go cry about it, why don't you? My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room" This is when he went crazy and started talking to himself. Velcro was too much for him to handle. "Don't you think we oughta know by now? Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?" He wasn't very patient with his creation. What a loser. But anyways, great job John! You made a song about something sooo simple, but made it sound great and emotional. Keep it up!

This is definetely about breaking up. It's about the last period or even the last evening being together, seeing that you failed in a relationship. Both realize that their love will come to an end cause differences are big and problems cannot be solved. Sad though, but wonderful song.

I agree, this is a totally different side of Mayer, he's usually very honest but this time it's in a harsh way. I think one part of this song is that he's trying to say to this girl she needs to face reality- deep down inside she knows it's ending soon. It's like he's saying come on, don't try and kid this any longer: you know it's got to end once and for all. But, even though he's being blunt, I love how he still manages to show that the relationship meant the world to him while it lasted. "you're the only light I ever saw" great song.
