| "coming out of my cage" jail. "gotta gotta be down, because i want it all" hoping he can stilll have what he used to before, but now theres this new guy that she's with, and he's jealous. but it's his fault, but he's so jealous. and she doesn't want him anymore, "while she's calling a cab" but he's hoping he'll DO JUST FINE. | |

| It was an okay cover. Not entirely great or good or anything. But it's.. okay. I think this is what the original song would sound like minus the synthesizers and all those electronica effects mambo jumbo. | |

| My take on this is that the dudes in a relationship with this girl and she has ended up cheating on him and he's found out and now he's having a issues dealing with it in his head and its just killing him and eating him up on the inside because he loves her but she has completely betrayed him and maybe he's considering forgiving her (looking on the brightside?). Pretty much what i'm going through right now... this song is kind of depressing now actually.. | |

| Guy meets a girl, it goes great and they kiss - he gets his hopes up. But turns out it was "only a kiss". She gets herself a new man. He finds out about this and feels heartbrokenly jealous. He plays out in his head what he knows is going on behind closed doors. It hurts right now but in the end he knows he'll be ok. | |

| This to mean holds special significance. The first time I heard this was wjen me and a girl very close to me kissed for the first time, but she wanted to stay with her boy friend (my best friend). And the worst thing was they were always loved up in front of me ''I just can't look its killing me'' In the end i got really depressed and started self harming ''It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this'' about 2 months later, i saw that me and her were never going to be together ''open up my eager eyes'' You may disagree with me but this song is amazing, and it somes up the beggining off 2006 in my life Mcfly suck so much. | |

| I think it is about cheating, but he is the other man. She's going home to her boyfriend (husband) and he's agonizing over it because he is in love with her. Mr. Brightside is him rationalizing himself as the better man. He views it as a bad relationship that she should get out of and be with him instead. | |

| I can relate a little too much with these lyrics sadly. To me, it's about how love can just take over all your feelings and how jealousy really comes in to play and can just take over your life. Even if it's in your head. Love is like a mental sickness, and this is a side effect. (Talking bollocks? I wish) Obviously, the 2 people this story is about are not (and probably never have been) an item " Coming out of my cage And I've been doin' just fine " He hasnt seen her for a while and he has been just fine, but then when he see's her again it's like starting back at square 1. Boy oh boy can I relate to this, haha. " It started out with a kiss How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss It was only a kiss " Something has happened with them in the past, and it meant so much to him but to her it meant "only a kiss" so he's trying to convince himself of this. " Now I'm falling asleep And she's calling a cab While he's having a smoke And she's taking a drag Now they're going to bed And my stomach is sick And it's all in my head But she's touching his chest now He takes off her dress now Let me go " Argh, god these lines are so good!!! Basically the imagination going wild, lol. Possible love interests of the girl are driving him crazy and even though it's all in his imagination, he can't help it. I love these lines... "And my stomach is sick And it's all in my head Let me go" Let me go, is a wonderful line. He doesnt want to feel like this at all (Who would? lol) But it's uncontrolable! Wondeful lyrics. Could anyone analyse "Turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis " for me, obviously, is all about jealously, but i want to know what people think each individual line means. Thanks. x | |

| Yeah this song is awesome, but no offense to anyone the Mcfly version SUCKS. circus_chyk you asked for another person's interpretation(sp?) so this is what I reckon the lyrics mean- "Jealousy turning saints into the sea" the saints is your confidence(cause the meaning of saints to me is someone who is courageous and confident etc) so all the jealousy and envy you go through is drowing away all your confidence "swimming through sick lullabies" Well to me I can't sleep at night because of my crush going out with my bestfriend and stuff so basically to me it means at night all these images of them are going through your head like nightmares and your trying to fight them. "choking on your alibis" You know the feeling when someone lies to you and you know it and you just want to go *cough* bullshit I know your lying. Well thats what basically that line means your choking on there lies. So yeah that's basically my interpretation of the lines. I might be wrong cause I'm looking at this through a girls point of view so yeah. | |

| It's easy. It's about him loving a girl who's already got a boyfriend. There's obviously been a kiss between them, friendly or not, and they left it at that, but he fell in love with her. "And it's all in my head, but she's touching his chest now, he takes off her dress now, let me go" is about that they've gone upstairs and he's still downstairs whilst he's waiting for a cab she called for him, but it's tearing him up knowing that they're probably doing something dirrttty up there. "Jealousy, turning saints into the sea." The line "but it's just the price I pay" means he knows she loves her boyfriend and not him, but there's nothing he can do about it and it hurts. Finally, the line "Open up my eager eyes, cause i'm Mr. Brightside" means he thinks there's always hope, and that he always looks on the bright side - weather he wants to or not. | |

| I don't really understand why people argue about the meaning of this song. Pixiestixs hit the nail right on its head in his post (one of the first posts in this thread). It's all in his imagination. It's all in his head. The keyword is jealousy. Oh, and about the kiss (might there be any doubt). The kiss was between the "singer" and the woman he is singing about. It was only a kiss, but damn his insane jealousy is taking control. And he can't control it, he can't stop it. Destiny is calling. I love the posts about the "homo sexuality". Sorry, couldn't stop laughing. But hey, if that's what the song means to you, go for it. To each their own. | |

| Well, I'm not a sentimental bloke but I was seeing a girl who had (we are now together after 1 year) a boyfriend and this song basically says everything I felt about her, please bear with me. I met a girl whom I didn't know had a boyfriend at the time. We met at a house party, I gave her my total attention the whole time. We ended up going for a drink, went back to my place. After I found out she had a boyfriend I longed for her to get rid of him for me (we had been seeing each other for 3 months so im not a weirdo). We were seein each other and she would tell porkies as to who she was with and would usually get caught but her boyfriend was too dumb to realise what was going on. I moved in the same circle of friends and I would have to leave the group if her boyfriend was there because I would get intensely jealous that he could touch her and be affectionate and I couldn't. Every time she would be with me she would have to suddenly get up and leave me by myself which would pretty much kill me because I secretly loved her to death. All i can say is, is that I have my own interpretation of this song and the main one is that, I meta chick, ended up loving the girl, she had a boyfriend and could only spend limited time with me which would kill my spirit because I wanted her for me (thankfully we are now together properly). Not a song meaning per se but my interpretation of it. | |

| This song means a lot to me, but by reading all of your comments, my prespective on it is completely different. Coming out of my cage means to me that there is a person who finally declared love for a girl. But got rejected. She only likes him as a friend. He's got to be strong, because he wants her so much. It started out with a kiss, but maybe not a kiss to him, Maybe they were at a party and he watched her kiss another boy. Maybe a friend of his. Possibly after an intake of alcohol, he's falling asleep and watching her call a cab, standing next to the man she kissed, who's having a cigarette, and she's taking a draw. One thing leads to another, I can just imagine a girl dressed really slick, and a man in a suit with his tie hanging loose and his shirt half unbuttoned. Unbuttoning his shirt even more he takes off her dress and the rest is self-explanitary. He can't watch, The heartbreak is too much.. Jealousy turns good people to the sea, meaning he might drown himself. Swimming through all this sickness he's feeling It's the price he pays for not trying harder. He feels thats the only way he can escape. Mr Brightside? | |
