(I'VE MADE LITTLE CHANGES OF SOME CHORDS HERE BECAUSE MY FIRST SUBMISSION HAD
ERRORS ..cause the time i submitted that one i am so excited of the song.)
\\\ - changes
C#m B
Heaven bent to take my hand
A E
And lead me through the fire
B C#m \\\
Be the long awaited answer
A E
To a long and painful fight
C#m B
Truth be told I've tried my best
A E
But somewhere along the way
C#m B A
I got caught up in all there was to offer
C#m B A
And the cost was so much more than I could bear
F#m A
Though I've tried, I've fallen...
E B F#m \\\
I have sunk so low
A
I have messed up
E B
Better I should know
F#m A
So don't come round here
E B A
And tell me I told you so...
(same chords with the 1st stanza)
We all begin with good intent
Love was raw and young
We believed that we could change ourselves
THe past could be undone
But we carry on our backs the burden
Time always reveals
F#m C#m
The lonely light of morning
F#m C#m
The wound that would not heal
F#m A E \\\
It's the bitter taste of losing everything
B F#m - A \\\ (i'm pretty sure now of this part)
That I have held so dear.
E
I've fallen...
B F#m
I have sunk so low
A
I have messed up
B
Better I should know
F#m A
So don't come round here
E B A
And tell me I told you so...
(same chords with the 1st stanza)
Heaven bent to take my hand
Nowhere left to turn
I'm lost to those I thought were friends
To everyone I know
Oh they turned their heads embarassed
Pretend that they don't see
C#m
But it's one missed step
B A
You'll slip before you know it
C#m B A
And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed
F#m A
Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I have messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...
[x2]
that's all ENJOY again!!!!

| I don't think it's about suicide at all, and nothing in the video makes me think that. She's just holding her breath under water, and she's even in a car at different points in the video. It's a relationship song, not a suicide song. | |

| i think this is a song about her mother dying.......... i think it's about maybe cancer over taking her body?? "in the womb that would not heal".... maybe ovarian cancer??... i don't know i could be wrong, but i think this is a song about her dying mother and her last chance in gaining a relationship with her...... that's my thoughts, but it could be wrong..... | |

| To me this song is about hitting rock bottom. It is an apology letter to everyone she has screwed up along the way. Again, I could have wrote this. This is my life. I have been at the bottom. | |

| Another one of those songs that can be interpreted in many ways. I personally think it's about getting into a relationship, thinking "this is going to last forever", even though the person she's with doubts that, because he knows her better. Anyway, they get into a relationship, and she messes up. She either loses interest, gets sidetracked, gets busy with life, and she's saying, "Don't come around saying 'I told you so'". It's almost like she's saying that she KNOWS her faults. And she KNOWS she messed up, and she doesn't need to hear it from everyone, because she hears it from herself all the time. Hence, "truth be told I've tried my best". She tried her hardest with this person, but "the cost was so much more then I could bear", meaning she couldn't put up with it. So she's fallen. She sunk. She feels like crap because of what she's done. Her friends want to stand by her, but she feels gulity, because she KNOWS it's her fault. So she's wondering if they're really friends or not. "We believe that we could change ourselves", she's referring to herself. She told herself that she wouldn't do this again, but she ended up doing it anyway. Anyway, that's how I saw it. | |

| I think it's a song about screwing up royally. A lot of us (well, since most of you are teenagers you really haven't had much experience in meaningful relationships) have been in a situation where we try and do the right thing and just completely fuck it up. Or what we thought was right at the time, and we end up just alienating every one of our friends because we end up being the shit-head in the relationship. "I'm lost to those I thought were friends To everyone I know Oh they turned their heads embarassed Pretend that they don't see" It's a cascading failure of always saying the wrong thing, but never really meaning too. | |

| a) sarah did write this song. she at least cowrites every song. and b) sarah hasn't really said whether she believes in heaven/hell or not. just because she isn't a strict christian doesn't mean she doesn't have her own beliefs as a person. think of the songs, "angel", "witness", "prayer of st francis", etc. She's just figuring out her way like everyone else. Even if she does or doesn't believe in god/heaven/hell, nobody really knows because she's not very candid about it. and c) people can say heaven without believing in it. | |

| Maybe it's about a marriage. She got married and her friends or her parents told her not to, maybe she was too young. So she's trying to do good in her marriage and is asking for help and how to cope with all the challenges of marriage but then, despite the advice, she does something horrible. Maybe she breaks under the pressure of marriage so young or she's just not used to this kind of thing and it's overwhelming, or she has an affair. The man in the relationship finds out or whatever and is sick of it so they get a divorce. Now all her friends and parents are embarassed off her actions at getting married when they told her not to (Don't come around her and tell me I told you so) and of her being in an affair. By the way, myztikalspyril, did you ever think she didn't write this song? Maybe? A lot of artist in this genre of music HAVEN'T been since like 1982. | |

| Please note: The lyrics reads, 'in the wound that would not heal' not, as someone above suggested 'the womb that would not heal' I adore this song, I fell in love with it as soon as I heard it. It is yet another Sarah masterpiece and describes how I feel at times. I think it is about making mistakes though you've tried and tried and tried. It is about, to me having a feeling of inadequacy and just not being able to reach the place you know you can. It is also, about frustration 'better I should know' and not wanting to hear that you've stuffed up again from other people, because you already know in your heart that you have 'messed up' Those are my thoughts on it | |

| i think this song is about a girl who was trying her best to do her part in the world but got lost along the way, and now she can't find herself. all the friends she lost; everything she loved, she threw away without really meaning to...and now regrets it with all her being. like someone said, it's like this immense feeling of despair. | |

| this seems pretty deep and i cant quite get the grasp. it seems that she was aiming to do good and got sidetracked. something caught her eye that seemed innocent. and then she 'fell'. possibly betrayed her friends. | |
