	this song is about Hetfield's regret that he did not make the most of the time his mother was around, as shown by the line 'I took your love for granted, All the things you said to me'. I rate this 4th amongst Metallica's ballads behind Nothing Else Matters (3), Sanitarium (2) and Fade to Black (1).

	I never thought I'd say this, but Mama Said is their best ballad. Fade To Black now ranks in at second place. Although my mom isn't dead, I can relate to these lyrics so well. And the tune, james' voice, and what not almost made me cry. Their best. Period.

	Most of the people here say that this song is about james who regrets how he treated his mother. But what does this line mean then? "But you gave me your emptiness I now take to my grave" I dont understand it. If this song puts james' mother in a positive light then what do those lines mean?

	I have to say along with Dyers Eve, The Unnamed Feeling, Battery and Blackened: Mama Said is Metallica's Greatest work, so much emotion, so much pain and sorrow yet so beautiful. Words just dont do it justice. Metallica ARE The Masters of Their Craft!!!!!!!!!
