All of you are probably on the right track. It does seem to be about all your good luck turning around and slapping you in the face. Even in life, it seems that way. Anyone else notice it's almost like for every good thing, an equally bad thing happens to you? Oh well, anyway, I'm off on a tangent. My opinion, however, is it's about being a celebrity. Everything will fall to your wish, everyone loves you, you're bathed in beautiful light. Everything's going right, and you think nothing bad can happen. Eventually, however, that beautiful light turns around; all his fortune falls, and he's royally screwed.

I would not say "unexpected". See the third line: "Pay no mind to the distant thunder" That means the storm is coming, he should have foreseen it, but instead, he just is too focused in another things: "Beauty fills his head with wonder, boy..." It's liek some guy who has a good time, and thinks that nothing can go wrong, but because of this optimism he fails to see the signs that something bad is going to happen, so he is unprepared.

I just wanted to add that when someone is on the edge of death, they see a light at the end of the tunnel, and this song is saying, IMHO, that occationaly, life will deal you a "No Leaf Clover" or bad luck. In this case, its a frieght train, bringing you/him back to life in a horrible way. Just my opinion. Noah
