Fortune, fame, mirror vain, gone insane, but the memory remains.

Heavy rings on fingers wave, another star denies the grave.
G G/B
See the nowhere crowd cry the nowhere cheers of honor.
Like twisted vines that grow, hide and swallow mansions whole.
G G/B E5
And dim the light of an already faded prima donna.
D5 E5 D5 E5 D5 E5 D5
Fortune, fame, mirror vain, gone insane.

Heavy rings hold cigarettes up to lips that time forgets.

While the Hollywood sun sets, behind your back.
And can't the band play on, just listen, they play my song.

Just an interesting note (to me, not to you). My friends sang this instead of Happy Birthday at my 18th. Seems like a good idea when you're drunk...

Um, sorta. Someone who is a star, whether it be a pop star or rock star or actor, etc. I take it in a personal refrence to Metallica themselves. I mean, everybody is like, "Metallica is gay, they suck now, they're so over" when really they're not, they still make albums, and I don't think they'll be over for avery long time if not never. And What makes me take refrence to them is the' "and can't the band play on, just listen they play my song. Ash to ash, dust to dust, Fade to Black." they refer to their song Fade to Black. I can't tell if it's intentional or not...oh well, that's how I look at it even though it probably isn't. MetallicA kicks @$$!

I agree that this song is directed to the people who think Metallica is done. I'd also like to point out that this could possibly bring some meaning to James yelling "ah, suck it" during the S&M version of the song, basically telling everyone "screw you, Metallica lives on forever!"

I only like the ending of this song when that old woman begins to 'sing'. It always sends a shiver down my spine!

I have to agree with the theme that the song is about themselves, although I personally think that Metallica cannot die. Metallica is a legend that will forever live on. It makes me happy to see a six year old kid walking down the street with a Metallica shirt on. I being sixteen have grown up with Metallica because of my elder brother and his generation. Metallica may never fall, that is it period. As for Little Tin Goddess, yes I agree with WeezerGuy.

What's the deal with the guy in this song who goes "da da da da, da da da...." ? He sounds like a leprechaun. Anyone know who that guy is? And he has an unusual accent. What country is he from? Also, why did Metallica choose to include him in the song? That sounds so out of place in a heavy metal song.

The woeful tale of a "15 minutes of fame" pop star. She spends her entire life trying to to return to the lime-light, and goes insane. Have fun, Ms. Spears!
