	I agree with bassman on these lyrics, im surprised not many people have commented on this song its a good one Capricorn - why the hell are you posting in the metallica section?

	all these are really good and reasonable. but i think its about James being the black sheep of his family. if u look at other songs , like Mama said, u get that he left his devoutely religious family for his rock lifestyle. he scorned them with songs like The God That Failed and Leper Messiah and made them ashamed of him. now as u know he went to his mothers funeral and the procedings and such, where his faimly was, as u know if u've ever been to a funeral. He is the thorn within because he is the pain and shame of his family and he's in the failmy. thats my take on it, hope it helps.

	This song is about a man that is accused of something, even though his father was part of it. His father downs him and denies the guilt. Read the lyrics, it makes sense. The lyrics are wrong, too. 	I think it's about a daughter who gets pregnant, thus the thorn (the problem) within. The father is obviously not happy about it and may or may not be responsible. I doubt he is. He makes her feel guilty but guilt is also following him and one day he will regret what he does.
