Tabbed by theplot
From acoustic session
Intro: Hammer on strings on open Am chord from high to low
Verse:
C Am
On the day we were supposed to leave
F G
You changed your mind at the station
Am
You had a nice apartment
F
There was a good bar downstairs
Dm
Your old friend worked there
C Am
I'll go anyway, I'll go anyway
F G
They won't refund the ticket
G
It's a good story
Chorus:
Dm G
But I don't want to live it alone
G Am
Crash to take a chance
Am C (hammer on D string)
I wanna live it out
C Dm
I know I'm already dead
Dm G
No concrete adversity
G Am
Only traps of our own actions
Am C (hammer on D string)
How we wanted it to be
C Dm
Now I'm never gonna see you again
Dm G
You checked out
Verse:
Vertabrae by vertebrae
Roll your way out of a coma
Look up, the nurse is smiling
What luck, the nurse is me
Your old body is dead
Your body's dead, you're a word instead
In my sleep I repeat it
It's a good story
Chorus:
But I don't want to live it alone
Crash to take a chance
We were gonna live it out
Look at you, you're already dead
How will you remember me
Digging ditches out of boredom
Said you would never leave
Now you're never gonna be here again
You turned off
Outro: Use chorus chords
Dum dum dum dum dum
Sha la la la la
Dum dum dum dum dum
End on G or C

| she wants to find out whats in store for her. she's bored of her normal life. she wants to live. but the guy that is supposed to come along for the ride backs out. they meet in later years...she has gone out there and taken risks, while he's still in his closed off from the world state AKA coma. | |

| I heard acoustic versions of this and Glass Ceiling. I like both much better acoustic. If you wanna hear it heres the link http://youtube.com/watch?v=P_tsD3Dyfnc The first verse sounds like, yes her companion is holding her back from going somewhere. She's going to go without him, but she'll be lonely. She wants something new, but is it worth leaving him behind? What they had wasn't all they expected. She feels like she was there for him but maybe he wasn't for her. They kind of give up. Especially her, she was so focused on him and now she's risking it all and leaving. | |

| This song is all about the limitations we create for ourselves. The singer wants to go out into the world and experience life, but her companion is reluctant to leave the cozy nest of his normal life. However, if we don't take risks and chances then we are already dead, because we aren't living life to the full. | |

| To me this song means to "Live out" or to live to the fullest any situation. For example when you get a boyfriend, eventually it inevitable that you will break up so until then you do everything to live it out. I love the line "Crash to take a chance I wanna live it out Look at you, I know I'm already dead" It's like knowing your already over with so might as well "live it out" ***I think the beginning of the sound she is saying "Hold on" live it out, either way "Hold on" or "hope I" you still get the same message behind the song. Oh yeah listen to the acoustic version of the song it's AMAZING!! | |

| I love this song muchly... I agree... it's about taking risks and and doing what you want, living out your dreams rather than sitting back and doing what's easy. | |

| the acoustic version of this song is amazing....its addictive. you can find it on youtube when metric did rolling stones original series all acoustic, plus an elliot smith cover I think it was. I thought it was "your body is dead, you're wood instead..." IDK. I thought it made sense that way. what does it mean to be a word? and yes, I agree its about taking adventures and even if you fail, at least you know that you took a chance for once in your life. lovely ending to a great cd. | |
