Am I wry? No - Mew
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: Per Budtz-Jørgensen

Okay, I really like this song - it's the version from the album
Half the world is watching me from 2000 although I don't think
it's very different from the version on the boring Frengers album.
I did this tab with an acoustic guitar and that's probably reflected
in the fingering in some of the chords but overall I'm fairly satisfied
with the result. You're welcome to comment email-wise.
Tuning: EADGBe
There are three guitars:
Guitar 1 is played with a capo on the 3rd fret,
Guitar 2 is played with a capo on the 3rd fret,
Guitar 3 is an acoustic with a capo on the 1st fret
1st PART (intro):
Guitar 1
Fmaj9/c(?) Dm Bbmaj7 Bbmaj7
e|0---------0-----2---------2-----2---------2-----2-----2--------------------|
B|------------------------------------------------------------3--------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|----0---------------0---------0-----0---------0-----------0---0------------|
A|0-0---------0p2-2-2---------2-----------------------0----------------------|
E|--------------------------------3-3---------3---3-3-----3------------------|
2nd PART (verse):
Guitar 2 (you'll have to figure out the rhytms for yourself)
F C/e Bb/d Bb/a Bb
e|x---------x---------x------------------------------------------------------|
B|7---------5---------3---------3-3-3-3-3-3-3--------------------------------|
G|7---------6---------4---------4-4-4-4-4-4-4--------------------------------|
D|7---------7---------5---------5-5-5-5-5-5-5--------------------------------|
A|5---------4---------2---------x-x-x-x-x-x-x--------------------------------|
E|------------------------------2-2-2-2-3-3-3--------------------------------|
0:26 Now enters the bass and the rest of the band, cleverly changing
the function of your chords (bass in parenthesis):
Guitar 2:
Dm7 C Gm7 Bb6
e|x---------x---------x---------0--------------------------------------------|
B|7---------5---------3---------3--------------------------------------------|
G|7---------6---------4---------4--------------------------------------------|
D|7---------7---------5---------5--------------------------------------------|
A|5---------4---------2---------2--------------------------------------------|
E|(7)------(5)-------(0)-------(3)-------------------------------------------|
Guitar 1:
Dm7(9) C
e|--7-----7-----7-----7-----7-------5----5-----5-----5-----5-----------------|
B|7-----7-----7-----7-----7-------5----5-----5-----5-----5-------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Guitar 1:
Gm7 Bb6
e|--3-----3-----3-----3-----2------------------------------------------------|
B|0-----0-----0-----0-----0-------4-5---4-5---4-5---4-5---4-5----------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
0:58 Now the singing starts:
Guitar 2:
F C/e Bb/d Bb/a Bb Bbmaj7
e|x---------x---------x-----------------------0------------------------------|
B|7---------5---------3---------3-3-3-3-3-3-3-0------------------------------|

D|7---------7---------5---------5-5-5-5-5-5-5-4------------------------------|
A|5---------4---------2---------x-x-x-x-x-x-x-5------------------------------|
E|------------------------------2-2-2-2-3-3-3-3------------------------------|
3rd PART (chorus):
Guitar 1 (same riff as intro)
Fmaj9/c(?) Dm7 Bbmaj7 Bbmaj7
e|0---------0-----2---------2-----2---------2-----2-----2--------------------|
B|------------------------------------------------------------3--------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|----0---------------0---------0-----0---------0-----------0---0------------|
A|0-0---------0p2-2-2---------2-----------------------0----------------------|
E|--------------------------------3-3---------3---3-3-----3------------------|
Guitar 2 (plays rhytmic slashes over Guitar 1's riff using the same chord
all the way through):
Fmaj9/c Dm7 Bbmaj9 Bbmaj9
e|5---------------5---------------5---------------------5----------7-7-7-7-7-|
B|7---------------7---------------7---------------------7----------7-7-7-7-7-|

| it seems to me that farah and the singer are in a relationship, but its fairly one sided. perhaps he wants to marry her "diamond ring...." but she isn't that commited, "but you can't find it"... which kind of sucks ..."cold is the night" i think everyone has been here, maybe thats why this song is so popular. Am I wry? could be like asking, do i feel cynical about this relationship, and the answer is no, i don't care, i'm going to do this anyway. farah could just be a name for the quintessential "she's not that into you" girl. | |

| I am so happy to be going to see Mew in 3 weeks in L.A. Yay! Anyway, I read Jonas describing this song as being about loss, and so to me I think the guy here is seriously in love with a girl who doesn't feel the same way about him. He adores her, and yet she isn't at the same level in the relationship. Eventually he gives up on the idea of the "diamond ring" -- the commitment -- and lets her go even though it hurts him to do so. | |

| I think this band's secret to success is their live show. I saw them supporting Martin Grech and they completely blew me away. That was months before their album came out but I still could remember some of the songs so clearly. I've seen them three times and they've always opened with this. What an amazing band. | |

| I am going to see Mew in a month or so and am actualy so excited! This song isn't the best on Frengers but it comes close... the intro is probably the best like ever! Their song The Zookeepers Boy is their best but i don't think you can get it many places but LOOK!!!! This song is (i think) about someone who just by being there makes this guy feel better.... maybe wrong? | |

| I love this song too, but it just surprises me that this one became so popular. This is actually one of my lesser favorites of theirs. | |
