I kind of thought that the woman was abused physically by her husband or something and then left and abandoned her children and this song is about how they felt. The whole "come home" part makes me think of the children pleading with their mother to come back because they don't know why she left - "Like you left us without notice". That's probably totally off though.

This song is nothing less than beautiful. And yes im pretty sure its about rape. The video that Mew play in the background when they play live for this song is amazing and this has to be one of my favourite Mew songs. Jonas has big eyes :)

Has anybody heard the version of this song on their "A Triumph for Man" album? I think I like that version better than the one on "Frengers" (which is still amazing).

To me this song is about rape. I was a victim of sexual abuse for many years (age 3 to 16) and that distanced me from my family because that was where it all took place, but when my older sister had a baby I realised that I wanted to be a part of it. So I "came home for christmas", I returned to my roots and decided to love my parents and my sisters no matter how much I wish they'd been able to protect me from my much older brother's abuse. This song to me kind of expresses how my boy- and girlfriends through the years have felt when I've explained, how they've been forced to realize that the scars won't ever disappear totally and I still feel very insecure about my sexuality and how to express it. My longest relationship was with a guy I met when I was fifteen, I didn't tell him anything until after two years (yes, I was his girlfriend during the last years of abuse), and when I did tell him he asked himself all these questions. He couldn't believe that we'd had sex sometimes the same day I was abused, and he never really got over the fact that him and I had sex though I really wasn't ready and didn't want to. Anyways, after that relationship I started being more open about these issues, now I know how to say no and I'm not ashamed for what I've been through anymore. Sorry for writing so much egocentrical stuff but I really felt like telling my story since it's perfect for this song, at least to me. Peace and love, everyone!

to me, this song is about a love he had that's gone and he's talking about how it was to see her again, "when she came home for christmas", and about how he felt and what he told her... i

The first version of SCHFC on the album A Triumph For Man makes the meaning pretty clear...the last line is "Don't touch her there when he fucked her". If it's about anything other than rape then I'd be very suprised. Also... "This is not happening" is not the last line in any of the versions of the song...

Felis, thankyou for sharing that, it was a beautiful story. This song hits home in a way for me as well. I was not ever abused myself, but 2 of my friends were, and my mother was a therapist for victims of sexual abuse/rape. "Don't touch her there She told me She remembers how it felt" These lines hurt the most for me. My friend shared the events of her abuse, she told me, she remembered what she did. And then the girl moved away soon after that- "Like you left us without notice." In another case, I heard the story of a girl I used to be best friends with, how she was raped by a friend. "It's not you" for me relates to my utter shock of who the person was who did it to her. "This is not happening" is an excuse many family members use to cover up the truth that someone they love is being abused- they don't want to admit what's really going on. In the video, the bear is killed by an evil being, and the young woman transforms into a little girl. I saw this as the girl's innocence being stripped from her (bear dying) and she'd been forced to grow up to fast when infact she's simply a child. This is such a gorgeous song and means so much to me. Everything about it is brilliant.

It's probably about sexual abuse from a brother/father who left her for a while and then came back when she thought she could erase all the memories.
