this whole cd has a recurring theme, the Fox. the bible, in matthew 8:20 Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the son of man has no place to lay his head. i think the cd kind of represents that verse. amestheamazing hit the nail on the head for the first verse. when he lived with the sin, he was the egg in the nest. bound to be eaten by the fox. bound to be destroyed by satan. i think everyone who has commented on this song so far is right. =)

I think that the candle represents holding on to your morality even though it's the day which represents a seemingly moral society. So they're criticizing her for being what they would they deem too, or unecesarily, moral. (this idea came to me after wacthing a music video for the song on youtube. it's like building an arc when theres no sign of rain).

I think that maybe the candle held at midday symbolizes what Satan offers. He offers some joy in the world, but what he offers is a candle to the sun. The sun being what god offers, and the candle being the devils offering. To many christians, looking at a sinner it would be as looking at someone carrying a candle at midday. We don't understand why others are attracted and don't understand how they chose Satan over God. But the sinner doesn't see themselves in the wrong.

"Nest by a fox's hole" suggests that the nest won't last long, since foxes eat birds and eggs. It's about imagining you need all these things, but, when you have them, you're still nothing, since it's all superficial.

What i get from this song is that when we go after everything that is esthetically pleasing and let lust be our only guide we only end up hurting. It never feels as wonderful and beautiful as it does when we are going after whatever it is we are going after.

I think you guys are totally right. Maybe his rants about him being called outside are suggesting that the woman thinks she is in darkness, hence the reason for the candle, even though the sun is up. And for her to call him outside so that he can show her true light. Not sure what Aaron means with the "people and the devil say" however. I like the idea of the ark, I saw the video too, which I thought was great, and I am sure it is related to this in some sense. Perhaps to portray man's twisted way of thinking that building an ark is absurd because there are no signs of rain, even the a bigger light, God, has told Noah there would be a great flood. Noah's warned them many times and he just wants them to ask him. Maybe i'm diving too far in but I think it's some hint towards what Aaron is trying to say. Anyone have ideas about the green eyes, cocaine, television, 2 miles, elegant blinds (that whole paragraph)? I get lost in that. Thanks.

This is in reply to barrel.of.monkeys... To me, the green eyes might be some type of symbolism for greed and always wanting more... and the cocaine implies that people are addicted to material things and distractions such as the television. The two miles of elegant blinds I believed was just to reinforce the material things that are excess in North American society. And then when they say that they are halfway raised, it lets you take a look inside.. And what you see is a girl holding a candle at midday... and what that represents to me is either a) chaos and absurdity of what's going on inside the room (implying that people living regular lives in today's society are living so pointlessly but don't even realize it) or b) it represents how things going on inside the house are little in comparison to what's outside. thats what i thought anways
