I think the beginning of this song (you can never tell me i shouldn't walk away its foolish to assume that ill be coming back another day you were never right and i was never wrong does truth lie in sincerity of another sullen song) is right up there with the all the classic song intros of all time.

i love the lines: "You can tell your story and coat it anyway, but you will never change who you trying to play now Your friends are falling out They know you just don't care, they know you never did" that reminds me so much of one of my ex best friends. she was a backstabbing bitch. bleh.

i dont mean to talk shit, but you guys r all really stupid. i dont really think any of midtowns songs have to do with girls.... they dont sing about that shit. they sing about friendships, betrayal, and that kind of stuff. this is not new found glory. this song is about rock and roll, and how much today is so corny and cheesy, but its rock and roll... u gotta fucking love it. it has nothing to do with relationships... none of their songs do to my knowledge...

i love the song its a good one. i think that the song could apply to both relationships and friends. like when a friend screws you over or something like that and you are still there friend and you know you should be mad and stuff like that. and in the relationships it could be breaking up with someone and then trying to hate them to get over them. thats just my opinion i could be wrong

This song is so much more than just a song you can scream along to. The line "God I wish I could hate you for the rest of my life" is just so cool. It suggests an incredible amount of anger while also allowing for forgiveness. I totally agree with toxyfoxy said, but I will add more to it and say that Gabe realizes he will get over the anger and things will eventually get patched up. He is just so upset right now that he doesn't want to admit that. I think the song is about a first love. A relationship that the male participant was a rookie in and probably fell head over heals in love with the girl. The girl wasn't as loyal. The probably fought a lot, but the guy was in love with her so he stuck with her. I'm thinking the relationship fell apart when he left (probably when he went on tour.) He excuses his own actions by saying "its just rock n roll" or in other words "its the rock n roll lifestyle, I'm allowed to see other girls" but is probably bitter that the girl is getting more play than him. He might have some regret for leaving the girl behind and losing the relationship (thus the chorus line "casue you were right then I should have been..." You know what? I change my mind. I'm thinking he had an opportunity to end the relationship and wishes he would have. He might feel bad about living the rock n roll lifestyle, but he enjoys it and isn't gonna change and is gonna leave the girl behind. Thats just my opinion. I think this is probably the same girl he writes about in the song "come on"

i completely agree with pmoremrockers. it's about having no control over how music changes and how even though it seems it's lost all realness, it's still just rock and roll. midtown doesn't sing about boy/girl relationships. like that kid said, friendship and betrayal and that kinda stuff. no cheesey shit here.

FOR ALL THE FELLOW CHRISTIANS, I BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE USING "GOD I WISH I COULD HATE YOU" AS AN EXCLAIMATION AND NOT TALKING ABOUT GOD. THEREFORE I STILL DIG 'EM
