The Mighty Mighty Bosstones were a ska-core band from Boston, Massachusetts (Bosstones is a play on Boston). They are credited with creating the ska-core genre, a form of music that mixes, to various degrees, elements of modern third-wave ska along with punk.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid- 1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy records.
Hiatus
In 2003 after returning from the European leg of the Jackknife To a Swan tour, the band announced in an open letter to their fans that they would be going on a hiatus. Lead singer Dicky Barrett is now an announcer on ABC's " Jimmy Kimmel Live" and hosts the "Mighty Morning Show" on Los Angeles radio's Indie 103.1 FM. Chris Rhodes is playing with ska band The Toasters. The band did not renew the domain registration for their official website www.bosstones.com, so it is no longer in service. The band's official site is a page on their current record label Side One Dummy's website.
Reunion Rumors
Joe Gittleman's side project Avoid One Thing have recently declared that they're going on a hiatus, similar to that of the Bosstones. This has led to speculation of a new Bosstones recording and tour.
