Power chords are the most commonly used chords in the world of Heavy Metal. They have
a somewhat negative image because they are so easy to play, but what the hell!! Sometimes
the easiest things are the best ones!

Here's the basic power chord, which you are probably already familiar with:

E5 F5 G5 A5 A5
|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|---2--------------|
|---2---3---5---7---|---0--------------|
|---0---1---3---5---|------------------|

These power chords consist of the root note and the fifth. Play the root (lower) note
with you index finger and the fifth with either the ring finger or the pinky, what ever
suits you best. They can be played anywhere on the neck.

Sometimes a third note is added: the octave. It then looks like this:

|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|---2--------------|
|---2---3---5---7---|---2--------------|
|---2---3---5---7---|---0--------------|
|---0---1---3---5---|------------------|

Next, you can play only the fifth and the octave, and leave out the root note. Check out
the intro of "Creeping Death" to get the idea.

|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|---2--------------|
|---2---3---5---3---|---2--------------|
|---2---3---5---3---|------------------|
|-------------------|------------------|

A more heavy sounding (and highly recommended) variation of the basic power chord is
this one:

|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|---2--------------|
|---2---3---5---7---|---0--------------|
|---0---1---3---5---|---0--------------|
|---0---1---3---5---|------------------|

If you like Dream Theater, you're probably familiar with the next one: sounds progressive!!!

|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|------------------|
|-------------------|---4--------------|
|---4---5---7---9---|---2--------------|
|---2---3---5---7---|---0--------------|
|---0---1---3---5---|------------------|

Then there are some more uncommon power chords:

|-------------------|-----------------|
|-------------------|-----------------|
|-------------------|-----------------|
|---3---5---6---7---|---4---6---------|
|---5---7---8---9---|---5---7---------|
|-------------------|-----------------|

That should be enough to get started.
