| I just think of it as a very metaphorical song. I don't think Katie is necessarily a "little girl," it seems to me like she's an adolescent and is referred to as a little girl because she feels and seems so small in the hugeness of life and the world. She's going through difficulties that are also so much bigger than her, and she says she'll find a way through without knowing how. Then she finds some form of self-destructive behaviour. The first thing I thought of was drugs, but it could be alcohol, anorexia, depression - it doesn't really matter. She refuses to accept that it's a problem ("you see I have control over me" - her addiction isn't controlling her, in her eyes.) And then it's asking, will you realize what you're doing and stop? There are people trying to help you and you won't accept it, won't get help ("turn a blind eye to all the faces that you know, and she said Go.") Instead, she ignores the help being offered and sinks even deeper into the self-destructive patterns. It's a really haunting song for me, because I've come so close. | |

| i belive that you can interpret this song in many differnt meanings. Katie can be mantally retarded or that she is abusing drugs or alcohol. It all depends on what u want to belive and what type of person you are. | |

| I never really knew what this was about but yeah the anorexia thing makes a lot of sense. I always saw this song as being about someone who is participating in some form of self destructive behaviour, i interpreted it as being 'getting in with the wrong crowd' and about how her friends felt having to watch her go down that path, and abandoning them, 'turn a blind eye to all the faces that you know' ie not accepting help from anyone. i think that makes sense with the anorexia context. And (as was suggested) i don't think Katie actually drowned, i think its more a comment on her finding something harmful to absorb herself in, ie not eating. anyway thats my opinion! | |

| I think this song is linked to The River coz there both talking about a little girl, plus the referrance that she drowned. Anyway, my interpretation of the song is that it was about a little girl who was abused by a family member, and i think along with that she might have had a really controlling person or people in her life, and the only way to prove to them that she controls her life not them, was to kill herself. And that 'im alive and i am free' line to me, means that now that she has killed herself she can be alive and free from those people trying to control her life. Thats my take on it. xoxo | |

| midget, I interpret it as Katie being a reformed alcoholic who starts drinking again. I don't know how accurate that is, but that's what I'm getting. | |

| She said "I'm alive and I am free, but you see I have control over me." i could see how that line could be about someone with anorexia. | |

| I think Katie is a teenager with a mental disorder, trying to get control over her life (but she can't.) Part of it is going to a river just, I don't know drowning stuff. Not literally, just destructive behavior, she has no control over, and being mad at her family for not helping her through it "She said go." | |

| i'm thinking drug abuse or alcohol abuse also.... Shes young but has a crap upbringing and turns to drugs or alcohol to make the feelings go away... The line, where it says i am alive i am free... i believe is a reference to the drug she is taking makes her forget everything.... every one telling her to stop and that is where the line..... turn a blind eye to all the faces that you know... makes sense. | |

| i think its about the same girl as the river. a little girl who for whatever reasons, killed herself. this one is more missy trying to see from katie's point of view. the "turn a blind eye to all the faces that u know" in my opinion is an expression of the selfish side of suicide. the anorexia thing makes a little bit of sense because it talks about her wanting control over her own self, but suicide can be about the same thing. some people dont like the idea of dying without the choice to. i agree like completely with biteme... yeah | |
