it's a really easy song to play. just listen to the song for the strumming pattern and
you're set. do clean slides through out it.

| Yea, I noticed the instrument switch. I wonder what "We don't like what we just saw but..." means. And why are they screaming Carolina? It sounds to me that hey are talking about one event where something went bad. Like something happenened that he doesn't want to talk about. But I don't think many people would agree with that. It seems to me that Brock talks about his father in songs a lot. On the cd Building nothin out of something, there is one song where he says "I told my dad what I need... well he said he said he said..." and also in the fifth song. I like Modest Mouse a lot, because there are so many songs that I don't know what they mean and it's really interesting to try to think of what they mean. Whatever I'm only babling now. | |

| this is a song about those close calls you have like when you almost get run over or fall off your bike and all the things that go through your head before you hit the ground, like your life flashing by in an instant. The dog paddle, and no meat to swallow is a metaphor for a certain struggle underway, and he feels heavy like an old muscle car in the water and he's running out of gas. | |

| The coughing in the beginning is great. Without really directly interpreting the lyrics, I've always thought of this song as one about a guy who can't cope with life (can't swim), so he uses drugs (dog paddles). | |

| If you look in the album credits, nobody is playing their regular instruments. Issac is on drums instead of guitar, etc. Maybe this represents having to try really hard to get things right, or simple confusion. Dog paddling, trying to stay above the water to survive in today's fast-paced unforgiving world. | |
