The other tab for this song was perfect except for the solo, so I made this. It sounds
The solo is played about ten times, I'm not exactly sure.

| The song is about a guy who is apparently with a girl he doesn't feel love toward and is probably just using her for sex. Then he notices this girl (who ionizes and atomizes), falls in love with her blah blah and notices how empty his relationship is. Fluorescent lights are just a part of real light and that's what his relationship is, part of real love, etc. | |

| I think it means, the guy loves the girl very much, she is like sunlight, like the others stated. And like another person who's name i forgot said, is that She was sunlight and the new girl he is going out with is just not sunlight, she is artificial. So as he is in the relationship he realizes all he wants is sunshine (the real girl). "Flourescent Lightbulbs will make an absence of dark, but the light just aint there still..." means that the fake girl will take away the feeling of loneliness and sadness. "I'm feeling empty, The real lights can make you heavy but, Never ever really empty... Flourescent lights will always equal empty" means that the girl who he really liks is empty and she realizes his position, that she made his heart heavy (filled with love and care), and that she could never make him mad or sad and that fake girls like the one he is with is fake. basically the metaphor is Flourscent lights:: fake girl Sunlight/real lights:: real girl the comparison to light is very beautiful in my opinion cause when you stay inside on a gloomy day with no lights you can't help but feel sad and lonely, no matter how many people are there... | |

| not to sound completely jaded, but i think enter's got the right idea. fake, real, lightbulbls. despite the implied relationship i think the drug is a predominent (though very subtle) theme. the girls words are quoted. she feels empty. there's nothing like not eating for three days to make you feel empty. and not many things make you have a lightbulb preferance than 'melting the bleeding sunlight' inside one. the different forms of light are different drugs or different states of mind induced by substances(ionizing). drugs change who you are by how much your bloodstream is saturated. the changes are moment to moment and completely severe. ionizes: "To convert or be converted totally or partially into ions." that would be taking the drug, or the act of melting down or burning said substance into steam or smoke. atomizing is when everything breaks down or apart--coming down. realizing and then itemizing (an extremely thurough list of specific details) implies his mind is being encompassed by this (the reality of realization=gravity or escapism halted by accepted reality of situation). sounds like speed. plus the alure of addictive drug is greater than the pull of gravity. flourescent lightbulbs equaling empty might give empty a dual use in the song--you can't use flourescent bulbs for paraphenalia, so they'd remind the girl she doesn't have any drugs which would remind her that her bloodstream is empty and so is her heart. because there's a point where you stop knowing who you are without being able to see it on a drug test. my strongest reasoning for non-love theme--there is no actual mention of love or affection for each other. the metaphors are not exactly romantic notions or particularly heartbreaking. the focus of the song isn't even particularly focused on the girl, but more specifically the different light sources and their effect on her as a person. she changes right in front of him with every hit of particles penetrating her veins, lungs, or nose. this song doesn't even sound sad, it sounds observational to me. | |

| I love how you can't even understand the first line at all. I remember listening with my dad and thinking Isaac said "Shit I (gibberish", as the first line. Then my dad got all pissed (he's strict about cursing in music), but when I checked the lyrics, I realized he wasn't cursing at all. | |

| Yes I did notice the girl's voice, but its really hard to understand what she's saying. I think she says: "Flourescent lights will always equal empty". Listen for it around the 1:57 mark. | |

| I think this song is about light in general, not really that deep in my opinion. I think people who write songs laugh at us when we try to turn it into something more. I'd laugh. | |

| this song means a lot to me because sunlight is the most beautiful mind blowing special thing there is. and i despise lights because they resemble sunlight in no way so i udnerstood exactly what eh was talking about. its a girl whos maybe fucked up and shes dating a guy and she leaves. he tries so hard pulls harderthan grvaity but shessunlight and shes gone. and he gets another girl its distraction but its not real. this girl was sunlight beautiful and unbelievable. you can turn on every light in the house but it will never be as bright or glow as much as sunlight will do. im feeling empty (shes depressed has problems?) the real lights sunlight can make you heavy but never ever really equal empty flourescent lights will always equal empty. sunlight as life hes messed up too but she choses to go out and experiences thigns anyway and he choses to distract himself. or maybe she is going out into the world and wont take any emdication for her problems and he does to solve them and acts like thigns are fine. because the real lights can make you heavy but never ever really equal empty. the most beautiful person can be a disaster- can make you heavy- but will never be empty like any random non descript normal person and also life can be havy but youll still feel things on mediation or with distractions youll never feel. i dont know. i cant explain it. because i know the difference between sunlight and a light bulb. and it makes a world of difference to me. the music in this song is also brilliant. | |

| Its comparing the girl to sunlight and calling her perfect. "she ionizes and atomizes then turns into sunlight"...."the real lights will make you heavy but never really empty flourescent light will always equal empty" hes saying shes the real thing, shes the sunlight and everything else is the flourescent light, empty. the sun is the source of life for every living thing in the world and isaac brock is saying this girl is the source of life for him. honestly brock is a fucking genius...to compare a girl in such a way that its so subtle and yet so beautiful without it sounding like a sappy love song...holy hell. modest mouse is god...although i do like bellyful of swans interpretation as well. but to me its not about trouble in a relationship hes saying he needs her or he will be empty like a flourescent lightbulb. | |

" to me that means you may not be sad, but that doesnt mean your happy, the flourecent lights make it so theres light, but not good light, just enough to get by for the record try your a dumbass | |

| "She ionizes and atomizes Then turns to sunlight" his girl has a change of feelings.. and decides to leave.. sun=beauty "He realizes and itemizes Pulls harder than gravity" he realizes that he has fucked up big time.. he gets his priorities and shit straight.. he knows that she was the best thing that he had.. so he tries and tries and tries.. pulling harder than gravity.. but gravity does not affect sunlight.. "She ionizes and atomizes Then turns to sunlight" her feelings remain the same.. "Flourescent lightbulbs will make An absense of dark, but The light just aint there still" he tells himself that he is over her .. he finds another girl.. as a replacement.. just like light bulbs are like a sunlight substitute .. they get they job done.. but they aren't the same .. and he knows it .. he still loves her "and she says 'I'm feeling empty, The real lights can make you heavy but Never ever really empty Flourescent lights will always equal empty." his new girl [lightbulb] knows that he still loves her [sunlight] .. he sees that his love for her makes him feel like shit all the time.. makes him hate himself .. but knows that she is the one .. he'd never feel "empty" with her .. but as long as it isn't her that he's with .. he will always feel empty without her.. lightbulbs can never replace the natural beauty of sunlight.. the strange thing is.. i used to listen to this song after my girlfriend Sherry broke up with me.. i helped me cope.. because she meant alot to me.. but i had never known what it meant until now.. and i realize that i went through the EXACT SAME SHIT .. with the whole replacement girl and still feeling empty.. weird shit | |
