count the number of beats in each pattern and the number of
times the pattern is repeated.

Everyone's affraid of their own lives, If you could be anything you want
I bet you'd be dissapointed, am I right?
No one really knows the one's they love, If you knew everything
they thought,I bet you'd wish that they'd just shut up.

it seems to me that brock is saying that life is fucking about challenge...that even though shit sucks that being human is about struggle--if it was just GIVEN to you that what you got wouldn't seem as awesome as you'd imagined. but its not a unidirectional message; it's not a "buck up, asshole" song. its easy to get sucked into living day to day, always thinking that there is time later to do the things that you imagined doing. hell, it IS hard to remember that we die and our lives are short. we give control over to other people: our jobs, families (parents and our own families), what we "can't" do 'cause its doesn't fit to what other people want from us. day to day it seems like we'll live forever and we'll have time later. but we don't--so carpe diem. step out and make it something you're proud of 'cause it you don't get a second chance at it and it'll be gone sooner than you think.

to me, it's how people are never satisfied with what they have. They want a new job, but they'll hate that job too. They want to know more about the people they love, but they don't realize that you can never know. Life does not go the way you plan it. So fuck it all and go live your life before you die. You have the chance, and evern though you're not satisfied with how life is, live it to the fullest. Make it as close to perfect as you can by doing the things you want

i believe this song talk about how everyone is such clones and live by the system.. they dont live every day to the fullest and its hard to remember that you can do whatever you want.. so when you die for most of us our lives would have been pretty dull.. and if you could be anything youd still be disapointed bc your life is boring.. you have to loose all hope and live life to the fullest and know that one day your goin to die

I think this song is about the frustration of everyday life and the singers inability to cope with it all. He finds himself asking "what's the point of anything?" and seems decided that if there is no point then he will try to make the best of it. Or someshit. I don't know, i'm ripped.

I think its pretty obvious that akickz and hftz are right for the most part, but what about the whole "my mom she is a witch?"

the chorus i think is the sympathy that brock feels for us all, including himself. because it is hard to remember to live before we die, and sometimes its hard to get off your ass and do something. to me brock is saying, "ya i know that its hard, its hard for me too"

theprynce is right about how literal that quote is. his mom, like mine, is 'a witch' because she celebrates the goddess rather than the god, it's almost an explanatory note to his statement. my favorite part of this song is 'if i had a nickel for every damn dime i'd have half the time, do you mind?' it reminds me of a joke proof that my friend did in physics about time being equal to money. and i guess that's part of the message of the song, right? we're so preoccupied with the details of the world, including money, perhaps, and other things material, we forget to live...although, if you believe in reincarnation or you are one who will have but one life, you still agree that you, as a sum of your experiences, are alive for the first and last time. i just...well, i realize that i ramble quite a bit, but i effing love this song.

Great song. Their most straight-forward lyrics. I love the way the song starts out slow and sad as MM complain about how people are never satisfied. But then the song transitions to a more upbeat, hopeful sound as MM tries to get listeners to realize they should try to enjoy life, 'cause its short and non-reentrant. It ends on the downbeat note, though. Reminds me a bit of the Beatles' Day In the Life Of in its transitions between upbeat and downbeat. In general, I think its great the way MM avoids the standard ABACAB song format.

this song has a good message and some pretty powerful lyrics but i think the melody is a bit annoying. I can't stand listening to it.
