Yeah stefanjo you have to have the version with the last line....but my version says: And you spend most of your life looking for the adult you are And you spend the rest of your life looking for - lookin for the child that you were. That makes the whole song right there. The song is about growing up low class in a working class setting. It is about wanting to get out of a place for so long, not only a space on a map, but a space in your head- and then coming to an understanding that those years were somehow still some of the best of your life....and that space is home

LCW is my favorite album. This song is great. Being "trailer trash" and knowing where you came from is better than being fake anyday. "Live in trailers with no class goddamn I hope I can pass high school means nothing." I feel like it's resigning to the fact that you'll always be poor. "Taking heartache with hard work Goddamn I am such a jerk, I can't do anything." To me, it's about being an underachiever. You can't fail if you never try.

Just an interesting note to hoorayforhumans' comments... I have a live album in which these lyrics are added to the end of the song: spend most of ya life looking for the adult you are and you spend the rest of ya life looking for the child you lost

I can totally relate. I grew up in a tralier myself (and not just any tralier...one that was about to fall the fuck down) and I feel that same pain and hurt.

I saw them play this song live the other night.. well like a week ago... it was amazing, it was their last song, isaac would play all softly then get all intense, then his A string broke on his guitar and he ripped it off and kept playing, haha it was soooo cool... i think this is just about his childhood early adult hood, with highschool and such, being sarcastic how his parents or something got a divorce and acted like they didn't mean anything, i can related to that.. haha it sucks, but this is a great song.. wow...

It definitely could be. I was not ruling that out, just simply explaining what I believe it to be about. I took the lyrics and ran in that direction.

for some reason, this song reminded me of 'catcher in the rye'. i think it was the lines 'i shout that you're all fakes' and 'i guess that i miss you', that swung me over. in which case, it's ironic that it's called 'trailer trash' - perhaps saying that wealth can't by you the qualities of a good person. i do realise the rest of the song doesn't fit with this but anyway...

everyone has pretty much milked it. specially that one person. i think its about how he lived in a trailer growing up. his parents divorced. they were poor. and hes had so many family problems its hard to concentrate in school. the mom gets them nothing and never cooks dinner. maybe a time once in his life. they are a beautiful band. my favorite. they have no bad songs. but hehe. when he says "god damn i am such a jerk" it prolly means he yells at his mom for being the way she is then he feels bad about it. and the 'you think of everything' kind of thing is prolly sarcasm. and the "i know that i miss you, im sorry if i dissed you" is prolly cuz hes been yellin at her all these years and hes moved on and misses her and is sorry. and the part where he shouts that their all fake is when people say their life sucks. he thinks their full of it. blah i tried lol. well thats basically it. hehe.

you think maybe Isaac is referring to himself? He used to live in a trailer, that's actually where they had band practice. He could be referring to all of the heartaches and hardships he endured as a child, and how angry it makes him to hear others complain about how hard their lives have been. He called them all fakes, and that was the price they had to pay when comparing bellyaches with him. Or, there is even a small possibility that he's talking about some relation, maybe even his mother. She always put on a front, the forks and plates (but nothing to eat), the kids and husband (neglected and divorced, respectively), and the fact that education meant nothing in respect to that family. He condemns the person for being fake and pretending that this was a life worth providing for children and living yourself when in reality all they were and would ever be was merely no-class trailer trash in the eyes of others. It's sad either way you cut it...i have no idea what it means, but I can guess....I guess.

that "one person" was me. Damn, I nailed that shit. And it IS issaquah. I live in snohomish. It's nice, but I'm sure S.A.D. is a problem with younger children in this area.

I'm sure a lot of this has been mentioned, but I have nothing better to do at the moment, so I'm going to pick this song apart, line by line. "Eating snow flakes with plastic forks And a paper plate of course, you think of everything." Considering the title of the song, I think this represents poor society. Snowflakes = free food, plastic forks and paper plates = cheap "Short love with a long divorce And a couple of kids of course They don't mean anything." The divorce rates continue to go up. I think this is a line that anyone can relate to. Don't we all know someone who has been through a divorce? Does anyone know if Isaac's parents were divorced? "Live in trailers with no class goddamn I hope I can pass high school means nothing." High school means nothing. you can do sooo well in high school, and have a bad turn of luck and end up in a trailer. or you can do awful in high school and end up rich. "Taking heartache with hard work Goddamn I am such a jerk, I can't do anything." I think he's referring to himself and a relationship (hearache, jerk, etc) "And I shout that you're all fakes And you should have seen the look on your face And I guess that's what it takes When comparing your bellyaches." -People can be very fake, but they hate being accused of it. I think he's saying that it takes someone honest to step in when people are a) complaining or (but less likely) b) bragging about their "bellyaches." "And it's been a long time Which agrees with this watch of mine And I guess that I miss you, and I'm sorry if I dissed you." Kinda self explanitory, don't you think. It's been a long time since he "dissed" someone and he's appologizing. I could be wrong about this. Who knows. Awesome song, my favorite off of LCW.
