| I think: "We're going union like they say We'll buy the congregation Then one day, you'll find us sitting in your chairs with big ideas of stocks and shares." Is a comedic reference to God's angels taking over heaven and running the business. | |

| Anyone ever think of "A message on the forehead of god, sent sealed and signed by the saints who sang this song..." is a way of showing us that even the angels and saints are greedy son's of bitchs? "We'll buy the congregation then one day you'll see us sittin' in your chair with big ideas of stocks and share," I think it could represent the saints and angels joining Lucifer in hell, scoffing at god's attempts to help us. Either that or its symbology to us, God being the government/corporation and we are the saints and angels, trying to over throw the business | |

| 764-mouser, you only hate Float On because all the teenie boppers like it. I bet if it never went to the mainstream and was only heard underground you would probably think it is one of the best songs you ever heard in your life. | |

| I really enjoy the kind of irony behind this song. It first talks about the general expansion to the shorelines for the "better views and close relaxing sounds" and how the shores are pissed and have decided to start "moving back to the sea." Whenever I hear this song I always reminds me of people, particularly in California, who build their houses near cliffs on the shorelines. Then a few years later the cliffs erode and the houses tumble down, and after cleanup new ones are built a few feet back. The song basically personifies the earth, making it a thinking, feeling being. When its encroached upon it gets angry and chooses basically what can be considered suicide because it desperately does not want to become subject to a restrictive "plumbing life." This goes in with the theme of the lament of urbanization so prevalent in many of Brocks songs. This song can also be considered much like that of Custom Concern or Cowboy Dan in many respects. A good song, and Kidss Bop is the spawn of satin. | |

| Dragon, about that near-the-end part ("A memo left on the forehead of God, sent sealed and signed by the saints who sang this song..."): I think it's about how people twist morals and the Bible/etc (I love the imagery-- they're putting the sealed envelope containing the "word of God" on God's forehead, showing God never meant those radical adaptations of His guidance to happen, and they don't want Him to know, anyways...) to influence and talk people into being suckers for their corporate schemes to keep on top. | |

| Much like the figure head of any major company (or heaven) the employees (or the people) make the company. And while the CEO of Heaven (possibly God) fell asleep after he watched his seven days of hard work start to pay off..he forgot to check back on us...and now we are idlely destroying ourselves. | |

| One of the best modest mouse songs ever. My personal Favorite! "I've got wood legs and bow legs and no legs at all. DAAAMN!!! Would you take a collect call? I've got poor eyes..." That part's how it just gets worse and worse until you need help at someone else's expense, so be thankful of what little you've got. Kinda the opposite of float on. | |

| Hmm... something tells me that Isaac Brock isnt angry against all forms of towns/cities/ etc, but just the rampant ,sloppy, and chaotic urbanization of what may have once been a beautiful meadow. Cant say i blame him. on aother note, it's interesting to note how hyperbolic the Wow, Town Ground etc.. are sung/screamed. Most people that i have talked to that have heard modest mouse, but not a fan, seem to similarly state Brock's voice being to coarse, or he screams to much. Sometimes i admit that may be somewhat true, but ironically i think that since the way he said these words was so overdone, its almost like tongue-in-cheek. | |

| Yeah, the wood legs and bow legs and no legs at...allll.. Part rules! it isnt always the lyrics, although they are always good, but sometimes the way he puts the words together, the mood that they create...the man is walking musical genius. Every time I see a post with the name "Float on" in it, I realize that so many lucky fans have the joy of finding out about Modest Mouses 7 other albums....it took me 4 years to get them all, and I will have the rest of my life to listen to them. | You're all forgeting the last part of the song: "We're going union like they say We'll buy the congregation Then one day, you'll find us sitting in your chairs with big ideas of stocks and shares." It's about, not only the de-naturalization of nature and society, but of the loss of meaning to the human spirit. You're taking it too literaly, it's about us, not them. | |
