This is a great song. Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks is one of MM's best albums and highly underrated. This and You're The Good Things are the 2 best off it IMO.

this tune is really funny, but the lyrics are kinda heavy, when you really listen to/read them. over and over again, "here it comes," says that a lot of things are inevitable "shit on our shoes," they're bad, and "The place and the time that we knew things would go wrong." it's our own damn fault we stayed, suck it up kinda like the hurricanes.

holy jesus this song kicks ass. i just found it the other day when i finally got the everywhere album. what a gem of a song this! such a laid back carefree philo on life. meanwhile i've scoured the internet looking for decent tabs on this song and found next to nothing. ive got the little guitar scale figured but the chords and and rest are a mystery. if anyone knows how to play it, the info would be much appreciated

This is the only song that has those lyrics Past... The lyrics are self exlpanatory..it is about a carefree person who loves life and sees he is getting older, but is still living (or hoping to live) with some of that same carefree attitude. This song, Summer, All Nite Drive In, are the kind of songs by MM that can get stuck in your head from the beat alone!

i dont know this song could have lots of meanings to it but one that came to my mind was getting introubel with cops "The place and the time that we knew that things could go wrong"-for being atthe wrong placeat the wrong time. and getting fucked over for it "You'll probably tell me everything you think"- the way over oppionated cops share there stupid oppinions and thought of how your doing things wrong and what you should do in those sittuations "If you sit still or if you run" - obviously if a cop pullls up and your doing something wrong you could either sit there and get in troubel or run away and take a chance of getting in more trubel "could you step away from the screen"- like a cop saying get away from (the object that could harm me) such as a 40 Oz. or a rock, hahah "Keep it clean and no one's ever won."- like a cop tellling you to, well keep it clean even when you accitually arent doing anything wrong and one more ""Don't look down." So what'd we do?" - not listening to a cops instructions, im not sure if its right and its probally wrong but i just saw some things in this song that relate to getting introubel with cops

I LOVE this song. I think it's talking about how we know things are going to happen, and there's nothing we can do to stop it, we just have to let it come and accept it.

I have'nt even bought this CD yet (although I am ordering it soon) but I listen to a thirty second clip of the song from the website over and over and over.... That's how addictive the beat and music are. Wow.

the beginning of the song is a strange banjo tune played backwards. I checked using a music reocrding software.

The place and the time that we knew that things could go wrong The grass grows green, could you step away from the screen, it doesn't mean I don't want you to be seen, just not like everyone. i love it, step away from the screen is what id like to tell girls that im going with cause they get flashy and stuff and i wanna be like no

Modest Mouse officially has some of the greatest lyrics ever. If you dont believe me im going to get pissed. I mean "Make a point to make no sense" "Speak about the future in past tense" Doesnt get any better.

modest mouse has the most incredible way of making me feel happy to be sad. this song is the perfect example of that. you cant help but smile and bop around to the catchy beat. and that is kinda the meaning behind it-you cant stop life so might as well shake your ass a little.

a few lines that seem to point to a break-up/turning point of a relationship that has been long-in coming. --- here it comes. (you know that dread feeling... the shit will hit the fan) a place and time that we knew everything could go wrong. emotional entanglement: make a point to make no sense. the feeling after an argument, when you feel like a turd for hurtful things said: didnt mean to be mean/ never won the future in past tense... means the future this couple had envisioned.... is no longer going to happen. 'i used to want to have a kid with you' etc.
