Aha! This album is about leaving earth and the conquest of space-how about this for an idea?- i believe it was meant to act as poetry/song sung by, who else, Planet Earth in the first person. when i thought about it like this, some of the lyrics could make sense. Maybe He/She is lonely now that His/Her inhabitants (we, the homo sapiens) have left. trying to persuade us to come back, cuz earth is lonely without us.

Beautiful song. At the time Justin Hayward thought it would be as big a hit as Nights in White Satin. It wasn't, but it's still a beautiful song. In the context of the album (To Our Childrens Childrens Children) this song makes sense. The theme of the album is about travelling through space and the loneliness associated with it. This song closes the album as fitting conclusion to have reached a heaven-like utopia. The "mole burrowing" part (imho) to analagous to travelling thru the dark space of the universe to reach utopia.

Considering where this song originated from...this song may be about how we're leaving Earth for greener pastures... Consider the lines.. 'Cos here there's lots of room for doing The things you've always been denied. So look and gather all you want to, There's no one here to stop you trying. I think those lines are about our infinite ability to consume every resource within our purview. I may be right or wrong, but it's worth a listen. The Moodies rule!

I love this song. It's very beautiful. I don't have any definite meaning but I bet it means someone who's free to roam around fields and forests. However, my personal interpretation was one of a person who yearns to meet someone who will truly understand them. This person promises the person that they'll be good to them and that they're free to explore them hence fields and forests. However, I can't quite figure out lines 4-6.
