Song: Hold Me Down
Artist: Motion City Soundtrack
Album: Commit This To Memory
Tuning: Standard
The first tab I did of this song wasn't very good, so I went back
and revisited
the song, here is what I came up with, enjoy.
This Song is done with a capo on the first fret and all chords are
relative to the
capo
Chords: C, C/B, F, Fm, Am, G
C x 3 2 0 1 0
C/B x 2 0 0 1 0
F 1 3 3 2 1 1
F2 x x 3 2 1 1
Fm 1 3 3 1 1 1
Am 6 8 8 6 6 6
C2 x 3 5 5 5 5
G 3 5 5 4 3 3
Okay, this is the picking pattern I use for the C and the C/B chords
during
the verses. I'm not sure if it's right, but it sounds okay. Strumming
also sounds
fine, it really doesn't matter.
C C/B
e-----0------0---------|
B------1------1--------| Just repeat that as many times as you need for the
G---0------0---0-------| verses.
D--2-2----0-0----------|
A-3------2-------------|
E----------------------|

| I believe that the whole song is the letter other then the first part of the song: i found a letter that said i'm sorry that you were asleep when i wrote these words down... the girl is saying he's everything is her but he holds her down and she's breaking the news to him in the letter. | |

| It is all about how he makes her feel. I think in a relationship that the other person does things to you that make you feel great at one minute and terrible at another. That explains the burst and bloom. I think the first part is that she thinks of him as her everything still, but it is just an echo now not the distinct voice that it used to be. She says in the first verse that he is always sleeping, so the laziness might work back in there, but it might also be just the laid back comfortable way that we feel on a Sunday afternoon and she knows she can feel that way with him. And he makes her feel empty, bc he will never be the man that she needs and the most of the world feels this at one time or another. | |

| It's a letter from his girlfriend. The one that he thought he's loved. But she just finds that he makes her feel to much. Unable to funtion. The love and heartbrake and depression he causes her just isn't woth it. He holds her down. But still, he want to tell her how much she means to him..but he just can't "how, will I break the news to you". | |

| p.s. the meaning of this song is obvious, as with most songs that draw their means of focus from "love." one would think time would be better spent deciphering the lyrics of bands that have something actually intelligent to say...don't get me wrong, I Am the Movie is a catchy album, but Commit This to Memory is pretty much a failed attempt at pleasing the alt/pop/rock mainstream circuit. there isn't much to their politics. | |

| I actually took it as more of a romantic song, but I see what you all mean. It is sort of like a breakup letter with a deep meaning. | |

| as far as the "you're the..." part goes, it's basically the girl telling him how much he means to her, even if it isn't working out. she's trying to let him know that even though she's leaving, it was a tough decision that she partly regrets and partly embraces. | |

| this song is pretty good, the album overall is pretty bad which makes sense considering mark hoppus got his grubby paws into it...if you actually bought this album 1.) you are an idiot 2.) you should try listening to I Am the Movie again and then try to say this whole album is worth half a listen | |

| I'm going to try and ignore the grotesquely incorrect lyrics. This is one of the sadder, deeper, serious songs that Motion City has released. I for one absolutly love it. It shows that MCS can preform happy, silly songs like Capital H as well as be seriously emo. Anyway, this song is in a letter format. Sort of the typical break up song. I can't help but wonder if Justin (or whomever wrote this song) actually recieved a letter like this. Yes, I'm far from a MCS buff. | |

| I like this song, but I have a correction. This song is not about him leaving her. It is a letter than he found from her. He just is not the man that she needs him to be. Many times we are that way and even though we can make her "burst and bloom" it isnt worth it to the woman. | |

| Sleeping alot doesn't nesscarily mean you are lazy. I feel that alot of mcs songs deal with depression and mental problems, and sleeping alot can be symptom of depression. And it is soooooooo hard to be with someone who is depressed. So by she/he saying that the other person holds them down, it can be due to the depression. They love them but they can't be with them. its amazing.... | |

| i hear ya on the repeat emogreen, same goes for me, now more than ever Its obviously a not from a girlfriend but i think it says more than just "youre not the man for me" or "this is a sappy break up letter". You guys know just as well as i do how it goes. When you have to much on youre plate you look right towards the one you love and how sometimes they dont always do or say what you want them too. But at the same time they give you that one amazing feeling. "Burst and Bloom". Notice this though, even though theyre done for now, she still remember each and everytime he made her feel like a princess. Give it time, time to clear youre head(clear your plate), and once thats through talk everything over. Yeah im gonna through it, thanks justin | |
