I agree with absorbingsponge except on the impetus of the song. It as well as the whole album eminates from something much more than a struggle with the record industry, it is a struggle in life. It is raw emotion.

this song is about how a person does not have to be in one social class,... or "clique" or group in life.. such as myself.. not tying yourself down into one single group of people.. and dressing in any one way.. but doing what you want to do. kind of like being a drifter

When the song breaks down after after the chorus the first time chad's talking in the background this is what he says: It’s all right to be afraid, But sometimes that’s what it takes for us to change, No power before the blacks and grays that shade our fate, They shape our lives in constrictive space, And hope prays we’ll count the days, Then we play our life like it’s some kind of fucking game, Point your finger at them and we’ll be the ones to assert the blame, So sorry you’ll be the one to absorb the tears, your fears, the loss is stacked up like you carried bricks for years, Once again you put your life on the line against the fate of time, Praying for the end of time … Praying for the end of time … PRAYING FOR THE END OF TIME …

Rrrrm... i think also its talking about the way the worlds structure is... everything is based on money not living... and hes saying that its so pathetic how something that means nothing is yet the emphasis in everyones mind... thats why they are so against selling out. Its basically giving ideas of all the stupidity that holds so much power in the world.. takes a sting at conformity, law, death and religion

I see this song as a description of the way existance as humans tends to be. The songwriter clearly sees the truth beyond society, or at least knows of it.

I see this song as how people like to accuse people of being lower than them and look down on them all in different society groups i agree with thraka songwriter understands everything about society
