I get goosbumps when I listen to this part Why do they observe me There's nothing here to cure I can see the silhouettes That sit behind the mirror I'm just like a clock upon the wall Always moving but never going anywhere

ok, this song is about a man. who is very passive with life. he keeps to himself. anyone who lashes out on him, he holds in thoes feelings. beats himself inside. he could also have skitzophrenia. but over all. its not about a mental patient. its about a man who is very patient, to the point of passiveness. but everyone thinks he is mental... hence "the patient mental" over all. this song to very eloquent. i and relate to this song on many levels.

I love the wordplay in this song. Some things Chad says can be heard in a completely differant way, depending who you are. A passive speared ritual (The passive spirit you're all) Driven by our war ship (Driven by, your worship) The hate driven envy (The hate driven in me)

"b/c Chad dwells on the fact that GOD has it out for him" Symbolism. None of the lyrics reflect derict concern with religion.

Kill me now. I am the first person to write a comment about this song?!? WTF? Locked inside their own head, the "patient mental" is abused verbally, shutting off all emotion. They sit and take it, feeling nothing. Inside their own mind they're screaming at everyone that has hurt them, although they are giving nothing away physically. Deep down they are hurt. They only want to be themself, but no one will let them. Nothing is good enough for anyone. "Driven by our war ship", or "worship?" How many times in your life has someone riddiculed you in the name of religion? Hipocritical? Yeah, but we are animals any way. Why can't any be who they want to be? What wrong with living your own life? Those are the unspoken questions asked in this song. Let go, read into it!

yes, i agree with u, but i think its more that 'the patient mental' or the person being drivin to self hate. They withdraw from everything, yet is still ridiculed. "The patient sits in cradled arms That comfort me by strangling" cradled arms being what he belives in, wheither it is god, buddah, or some other god, and the strangling is the choice that his 'god' decided to make life hard for him.

My take on the song is a little bit different than everyone... I think it's about the author dealing with his own fame. "Why won't they leave me alone, when I don't even want me." Sounds like someone who can't really understand why people like him so much when he doesn't even like himself -- something I can certainly identify with. "Why do they observe me, there's nothing here to cure," again, is talking about fame and being observed by fans and critics -- and people who read into the lyrics too much, perhaps? ;) "They have to kill the meal before they can consume my inner peace, without the understanding, trapped in the words, the hands are moving me." Sounds to me like he's talking about the record industry, where they feast on his success without really taking the time to understand him or his words. He feels like a puppet on a string, another theme that comes up in other songs.
