NEW BORN
Artist : Muse
Album : Origin Of Symmetry
Submitted by : bluelight2@libero.it

One of the best songs by Muse. This tab should be pretty accurate: if you have
one better than this one, just e-mail me ;-)

Chords:

Em 022000
B x24442
C x30210
G 320003
Am x02210
D xx0232
F xx3211

Intro: Em B Em B Em C G B (x2)

Verse 1:

Em B Em B
Link it to the world, link it to yourself
Em C G B
Stretch it like a birth squeeze
Em B
The love for what you hide
Em B
The bitterness inside
Em C G B
Is growing like the new born

Verse 2:
Em B
When you've seen
Em B Em C G B
Seen, too much,
Em B Em B
Too young, young
Em C G B
Soulless is everywhere

Bridge (distorsion guitar): Em Am D G F C F B (x2)

Verse 3: (same chords as Verse 1)

Hopeless time to roam
The distance to your home
Fades away to nowhere
How much are you worth
You can't come down to earth
You're swelling up, you're unstoppable

'Cause you've seen,
Seen, too much,
Too young, young
Soulless is everywhere

Chorus:

Em Am D
Destroy the spineless
G D F
Tell me it's real
C F B Em
Wasting their last chance, to come away
Am D
Just break the silence
G D F C F B
‘Cause I'm drifting away, away from you

(Solo)

Link it to the world
Link it to yourself
Stretch it like
It's a birth squeeze
And the love for what you hide
And the bitterness inside
Is growing like the new born

When you've seen, seen too much,
Too young, young
Soulless is everywhere

Destroy the spineless
Tell me it's real
Wasting their last chance, to come away
Just break the silence
‘Cause I'm drifting away, away from you

I haven't the solo: during the solo I just play the verse chords. enjoy ;-)

this is my favourite muse song, it has evertything: a great organ intro, it sounds really scary!!! then a master bass riff and the drums and the voice...... really cool!! i think itīs about a kind of a future antichrist, itīs very related with the video!

All right, we've established that this song is bloody brilliant (fairytale piano then that huge filthy riff, even crunchier than 'Dead Star') but not a lot about what it's about. That little genius Bellamy has said it's about computers taking over, but let's face it: he doesn't know what the hell he's on about half the time - that might have been the emotion behind the song, but it doesn't explain the lyrics. I take it as a dying relationship where the girl has realised she's pregnant. "The love for what you hide / And the bitterness inside / Is growing like the new born", "you're swelling up") This song is actually pretty evil - he's practically taunting her, because he doesn't want to be in the relationship any more. ("stretch it like it's a birth squeeze") But as the song goes on, he starts to panic, realising the implications of the situation ("show me it's real / Wasting our last chance to come away") - he has an obligation to this girl now and is stuck. This is probably my favourite Muse song - the only one that rivals it in my mind is Snow Patrol's 'Ways and Means' which is coincidentally about the exact same situation.

I do not speak english very good so I'm sorry if you dont understand something here. I'm not sure about what he is trying to transmit in this song, but I believe the story is all about him. The first verse talks about something growing inside him , some sort of feeling or desire, linked to himselft and to the world. And it all revolves around some "secret" that gives a lot of bitterness. The second verse talks of when matt was very young, like 6 year old or around. He might have been a very mind-gifted child , and he might have understood many things at that age not very common for a child of that age to be understood. Also , he might have "seen" many things a child that age shouldnt. He might have realized how "empty" , soul-less and unhearted can people be, at a very early age. The third verse narrates a certain moment in his life, when he became aware of what he could do in life. He noticed what his role was in this world. It could be a very important role, thus making him feel unstoppable. And the fifth verse , is directed to someone , I don't know who (maybe it is his concience telling him what to do?). Note that there is a subtle change from 5th verse to last verse. in the third line "our" chance becomes , "their" chance, noting that maybe he is not talking to his girlfriend in the "aborted phoetus" theory stated above(i'm not saying it is wrong, we don't actually know). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The main reason I belive all the song is about him is because in the New Born video, the girl has some strange simbols drawn on her forehead, and one of the is the symbol for the planet mercury in astrology. You might think astrology is a stupid thing and a fuss(I'm on my way to proove if it's a lie or not) , but knowing matt is interested in the occult , is it a coincidence that that symbol is painted on the girls forehead? I personally don't think so, considering Matt is a gemini , and what the girl is doing in the video. Matt once said that he doesn't mind giving his own intepretation to songs, but prefers people making their own interpretations. I could also understand as that he lies in his interpretations because he wants people to think and learn by themselves what each song is about. Hope it's been useful ;).
