| Screenager was called 'Razor Blades' before Origin Of Symmetry was released. The name Screenager (probably referring to how the kids all today talk through computers, text messages, TVs etc). It's related to the rest of the album about how these new technologies are meant to bring us closer together, but they actually make us drift apart. The fact it used to be called Razor Blades and the lyrics make me think this is about how teenagers feel they have to harm themelves to feel alive.. and they want to connect with their family again but they can't because of the teenage disagreements. They used to be beautiful but they aren't because they've been scarring themselves mentally and physically with what goes on. It's kind of about the innocence you lose in this age. | |

| this song. wow. it starts off so quietly and innocently, but then matt's amazing voice goes on to talk abut self-harm and fake teenagers and it's beautiful, yet scary. | |

| I must agree Psychoteen, Muse "fucking own". :D If you guys haven't read it yet, check out the Wikipedia entry on the word "Screenager": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screenager The word was coined by Douglas Rushkoff before Matt wrote these lyrics. I must just also comment on the effectiveness of the music. The verse with its ominous "human bones" percussion and jarring, subtly dissonant Brazilian guitar is an awesome representation of the disjointedness that I imagine self-mutilating people feel when they perform the act; and then in a moment of glorious revelation, the movement to parallel major and its beautiful synth arpeggios just echoes what Matt sings: that we are all beautiful as we are born. Finally, if you have only heard the album version, get a hold of the Hullabaloo DVD - Matt playing this on piano is awesome. | |

| I think the title "screenager" refers to the way in which so many teenagers are fake, its just a facade, ie they put up a screen. It blocks them out from the real world, and they live a fake life. "so phoney and always surrounded" is a cracking lyric. The false people are often the people with the biggest group of friends. The hide from the mirro bit is about hiding from your true self, meaning even theclosest people to you, family dont even know you any more. He's saying that children are so innocent and dont hide behind a "screen", they are their true selves. | |

| One of my favourite Muse songs. I think it's about how many teenagers these days harm themselves on a personal level (self harm, "all the scars on your skin, post no bills"), and on a bigger, societal scale- "hide from your family, they won't know you now" (they're too consumed with computers and television that they're totally separated from people who should have been close to them). And if we stopped harming ourselves physically and mentally, we could be beautiful. Because we all have that potential inside. | |

| Wow, this is a beautiful song.. I hope some stupid parent out there accidentally stumbles across it, and they might actually realise how hard it is for their kids growing up in todays modern society. Things aren't the same as they used to be. There's so much pressure to be popular and hang round in a big group ("Who's so phoney and always so surrounded?") and look a certain way ("Hide from the mirror") so much so that people change themselves just to fit in. Oh yeah, and I love Muse so much they fucking own. | |

| It is a really grear song and, yeah i guess, beautiful. I agree with the bit about Matt's high voice!!! I think it is about someone who had a really low self-esteem (but not necessairily hurt themselves) and tried to change themselves to "Fit In" but all their closest friends and family are noticing the change and think they should let their real selves shine thru again. Basically waht electricevil said!! I couldnt listen to this song at one point cos it really got to me, but i can now and i love i! It is sad and yet quite positive at the same time and the music and vocals are fab! | |

| amazing beautiful song, i think the bits about the teenager are true, but i think it's from the P.O.V of someone who knew and even loved the tenager who's hiding and changing, and wants them to change back hence the bit: 'who you were was so beautiful remember who... who you were' beautiful song :) | |

| no-one's commented since i did last DECEMBER! has no-one heard it, or does NO-ONE LIKE IT??? it's one of my favourite muse songs. and here's something else. i didn't self-harm when i commented in december, but i do now. so i can relate to it so much, so now it seems even more brilliant to me. | |
