Cydonia is the area on Mars where the mysterious 'face of mars' was photographed, and is also home to some strange pyramid-like hills which are oddly geometric. As a result it is a favourite element in speculation about life on Mars - perhaps the face is a giant carving left as a message by another civilisation; perhaps the pyramids are their monuments or tombs. Personally I don't go in for that stuff, and unfortunately NASA spoiled the fun recently by showing that the 'face' was just odd lighting effects on one of the original Mars missions. As for the song - the first time I heard the Bohemian Rhapsody type bit I was a little taken aback... but like all Muse songs it has now worked its way into my brain. I cannot wait to get this album... why Muse is so ignored by the mainstream of the 'alternative' music press (e.g. Pitchfork) is an enduring mystery.

@st3ven: that's exactly what I thought the first time I heard it. There's alot of parts on the album that remind me of Freddie Mercury, and also some parts U2 (strangely), in the song Invincible. This album is so great. At first hearing I was somewhat decieved, maybe because my expectations were so high, but after a couple of spins I can't let go of it. Only song I can't get hooked to is Starlight, yet.

OK i dunno what punk_rock14's been listening to but "For the virgin that still breathes I'll show you the For the sleep on the" are definately not right...that doesn't even make sense... i think it is: Come ride with me Through the veils of history I'll show you a God Who falls asleep on the job" that sounds a lot better...great lyrics in my opinion...lazy God...
