| This is a typical controversial song by muse. I think it is about how the government uses propoganda to lead us astray and they generate all our beliefs and ideals. It is "zetas", these are the greek letter for the number 6 | |

| you've got this one figured out. maybe zetans could be a reference to mark of the beast (number 666)? bit of a stretch. the thing carried through the centuries could be the book of revelations and he's waiting for the real end of the world instead of the one the leaders are giving him about having to go to war and stuff. | |

| similar to previous song and album names (origin of symmetry, ruled by secrecy) this song is based on a pre-existing theory. "exopolitics" is broadly speaking relations between aliens and the worlds governments. in this song however, after reading an interview with matt, is about the government faking an alien invasion- "when the zetas fill the sky its just our leaders in disguise" their reasons for doing so? most probably support for increased military budget and restrictions on peoples civil-rights. i too thought that this was a lil wierd, till i remembered, this is muse, they are weird. | |

| I think, its critics on America! Why Ok, let me try to explain. We got this Marching beat all the time (daap daap dapdop daap) seeming really military. So yes, it's about aliens first. landing on earth bringing us religious "advice". Now strangely this new aliens giving religious leardership to our world have quite some good contacts to our political leaders, which can't defie them, because theyd otherwise be killed or kicked from their position. Soo. and now imagine, how a citizen of a country invaded/freed by the US must feel. They are told, whats right or wrong, maybe US also spread catholism (dont really know) in the Islam countries. So they are taking away all the lands traditions, etc. And how should a little working class man understand that? And why doesn't his leader explain it to him? So all in all the song is about the world ignoring the normal people in the invaded countries. they are not asked, if they want to be "freed". And they are not shown in news either. you only hear about the good soldiers and the bad soldiers and of course about the polititians. | |

| Caitsith01 is certainly on the way to unravelling this one, but there's still a couple of things I feel really open up this song. A couple of theories surrounding the American government and terrorist threats seem to inspire Exo-Politics. "Who's Behind 9/11" is a theory suggesting that it was in fact the American government that was behind the 9/11 attacks on the world trade centers, an attack motivated by the military funding and excessive national support that would, and did, immediately follow. This theory, envisaging a government willing to use large scale and self-produced disasters to gain the support and funding of its people, seems to have spawned the theory apparent in Exo-Politics. In interviews, Bellamy openly discusses, but skilfully avoids agreeing (or disagreeing) with the following theory: In a decade or so the leading power(s) in the world will claim that we are under attack from extra-terrestials. This, as 9/11 suggests, would result in an unheard of increase in funding and national support. Now listen to the song with this in mind! ;) The opening verse sees our character aware of the deception about to occur, simply looking to the skies and waiting. Will you, the listener, be drawn in when it occurs or free your mind? The chorus outlines the theory: 'Zetas' (or 'Greys' - simply being the stereotypical extra-terrestial, having replaced 'little green men') are said to fill the skies. However, this is merely our leaders in disguise, as the only objects in the skies are the fully-loaded, newly-funded satellites, which, as they silently orbit the earth, have really conquered nothing but our minds. | |
