	To me just like some others said it's just a story of love and not being recognized by the one you're in love with or losing that one and it's set in an office. An eveyday situation that almost everybody's gone through. Gerard sings that sometimes he thinks he'll die alone, because that is the feeling you get when you can't connect with that one or are being rejected... maybe there is something deeper to it though... awesome song btw

	This song kicks ass. The idea of going to school and working your ass off, and ending up working in the sorry ass job sucks. When I think of this song I think about American Beauty in this weird way. So yeah, this song rocks! P.s I heard they were being played on MTV, u guys are better than that. Love from Salinas Cali.

	To Kurdt-Kobain: FUCK YOU ASSHOLE!!!!!! if your all about wasting time talking down MCR, then why the Hell are you on this page anyway????? i mean, it's about them, so if you didn't like them, then you wouldn't be here. also, you probably haven't had 1/2 the trouble that everyone else here has had, so when people say fuck or act sad, you prolly think we're a buch of faggs. but for future reference, i have seen 10x the shit you have and have put up with it, so fuck off. last, but sure as hell not least, i haven't seen you singing on stage and working hard to get where they are now like they have, so don't talk about shit you don't know anything about!!!! Back to song meanings. I think this song it kind of about how you can be sitting in class or at work and start daydreaming about your so called "love" (if there is such a thing) and how your mind can wander. it's about all those times you want to tell that someone how you feel, or just want to see them, but you know you can't because they're with someone else or don't like you THAT way. so you just sit there, watching them and every time they look over at you, you have to turn away and pretend you were actually working. the whole "fill in for your face" part is about lying to them and saying you like someone else or just that you don't like them, every though you do. The vacant 3x4 is about how you "love" this person, but since you can't have them, you still feel empty inside, even if you have it all.

	i can't believe no one has commented on this song yet. one of my favorite mcr songs. i have a few friends who are internet/web design guys who sit in cubes at big companies and theyre all about bringing home the paycheck and getting their little piece of "the american dream" just like everyone else. this song is all about being different, about not doing that with your life. the "i think id love to die alone" is a reference to just being different and doing what you want to do with your life instead of working for the man and being a carbon copy of everyone else in society. if fitting in means sitting in a cube, i for one want to "live and breathe and die alone" ...

	i think its about someone he was in love with at one time and is still in love with them yet they dont feel the same and he tries to fill the void with other people but its just not the same and he will always love them and miss them.

	when i listen to this song, i can't help thinking of a book called '1984'... in this book, society is led by a party and the called "Big Brother", which controlled completely their lives and acts... sometimes people disappeared without a trace because the party found that they could represent a risk by being alive, and its like is said in the song... "But you don't work here anymore Its just a vacant 3 by 4 And they might fill your place A temporary stand-in for your face It happens all the time And I can't help but think I'll die alone" and there are also other parts that are related... i dunno, but thats what i see...
