I think this is the most beautiful song by My Morning Jacket. I saw Jim James perform it with Conor Oberst and M. Ward. It was excellent.

Amazing guitar in this song. My first interpretation was like Coffee's: that the song represented the band's experience of getting a record deal and how it chanegd their lives. I think the song has some sad undercurrents, though. The word 'shakin,' especially, is an interesting choice. Sometimes people use shake to indicate dancing, but if you think about it, the word shake almost always has a violent connotation. Maybe the shaking is caused by drugs or stress, just a guess. I think the first line "wakin' up, feelin' good & limber," follow by the next two, indicates that something is about to change. Sure, a record deal will change their lives, but feelin' good an limber is a pretty general phrase, so it might indicate that they're loosing their innocence. All just speculation, of course, but it's fun nonetheless.

Archetype, I think you're overthinking. Superficies, I think you're joking. It's obviously about their record deal and some guy saying you've got a chance to never have to work (because playing music is not a job) and that's where "one big holiday" comes from. When he says "Was some shakin'," I think he's just saying shaking as in hands; meeting the guys at the record company.

the last half of the song sounds like an escape, like driving off to the horizon and never coming back

the way i've always taken it as pretty much as an epic. he gets this mysterious call giving him some insider information into somehting really special that he needs to know about, and thus begins the rock journey. somethin that'll take em far beyond their wildest dreams. so they find this music, stumble upon it almost and get taken away in it. the wonderful thing is though, if you look at it, the song doesn't finish itself with the words. it ends halfway through the verse. "all the leather kids were loud...." and then the song almost restarts and then explodes. it's like "we found it....and woah!" it explodes right in front of em. in a way, it's almost the bands theme song, i think, and it could be taken as an anthem, or as a tale of the recording of the album, but either way it's an awesome story. very epic.

"was a bad man from california tellin' of a stone he'd bring and of better days from this town, we'd escape if we holler loud & make our way we'd all live one big holiday" I interpret this to mean a record producer is promising them big money, or "stone" and better days for "hollering and making our way" recording an album, and one big holiday to mean they'd be rich blah blah blah. My 2 cents anyways but I'm probably off.
