i think this song might have a weird tuning or something because the
begining is such a strech...but this is what i've got so far:

I kinda saw this song as, his love is going to leave him, and knows it's gonna happen, the end of the relationship, and he's like give me one happy moment before it has to end.

The singer has died, and is realizing it and realizing what he wants of his lover, in that very last second of life. "Stay until you're sure that I'm asleep" - Don't leave me yet, don't go until I'm gone. "Just wait until tomorrow, bury me in sorrow, cover me in joy" - I'm gone. You'll get past this and in the meantime, be sad if you must, but remember me with joy, becauser that's how I'll remember you. "Every afternoon I wasted being mad at you, the things I never said, the things I can't say tomorrow" - All of that shit isn't important, I said things and you said things and the rest will never come, so don't dwell. "I'll have an eternity to think about tomorrow" - I'm not going anywhere. I just might never think of anything but you again, and how you're getting on, and what happened once I was gone? That's my take on it, folks.

I always thought this song was about someone close to you dying, and the regret and associated feelings afterward. This is not only my favorite Nada Surf song, but one of my favorite songs of all time.

i view this song as a long distance relationship, or at least that's what it means to me. "stay until you're sure that i'm asleep" [not wanting the lover to leave] "Just wait until tomorrow Bury me in sorrow Cover me in joy" [the lover leaving, and the person having to deal with different emotions after they're gone] "Every afternoon i wasted being mad at You The things I never said The things I can't say tomorrow" [wasting time before the person leaves and than realizing that they may not come back for a long time] "I'll have an eternity to think about tomorrow" [maybe as in i'll have an eternity to think about you not being there?] it's a stretch, but that's my perception.

This song is awesome. Daniel is amazing...how else could this song be so good if he didn't write it and sing it?!? This is definatly one of my favorites by Nada Surf.

This is a pretty tough song to decipher but i think i got it. i think it's just about how this one person (either friendship or relationship) and how he/she turned their back on their friend or lover. and now the person looks back at it and realises he wasted time with her/him. and how the person took everything in on what they did. and wasn't sure how to express it. bury me in sorry (hurt me) and cover me in joy (hide the face that you hurt me). and at the end, the person then realises he or she will never get it out of his/her mind. and how the person misses he or she. got that?
