| Prettyinpunk8177 "Butterflies, Butterflies, Cut the stomach out and hand it over" refers to having butterflies in your stomache. In other words feeling nervous. | |

| For some reason I always connected this song to nervousness and apprehension. It made me think of the phrase 'butterflies in your stomach'. What she's nervous about....no clue! | |

| This song has to be about an abortion, it's the only thing that ties all of the confusion together. The drug references "purple terror candy" "cocktail sedatives" etc. plus the idea of cutting the stomach out. Also consider lines like "two months to hide somewhere" and "this dichromatic vision" - clearly a riff on the absolutism surround the abortion debate which leaves no room for gray area or moral ambiguity. From the moment I heard this I thought of a woman struggling with a choice she had already made... | |

| i love this song so much, its full meaning i dont quite understand either and i'm not exactly sure how this could tie in but when she says "Butterflies, Butterflies Cut the stomach out and hand it over" (butterflies being prettiful) she could imply that beauty is on the inside (if anyones heard that phrase?), at a guess i reckon most people just think butterflys are just nice to look at, but shes saying theres more to them than just their looks-its a comparison to something maybe? ah i dunno if that makes sense but still, fab song! :) xxx | |

| I have to be honest, maybe I completely missed it but I never got the feeling that this song was about nervousness and anticipation. "Sickened by the wanting And drowning from the need.." sort of made me think of addiction to this "purple terror candy." "Now I feel unsteady.." I don't know, it seems to have some drug references, ay? | |

| It has nothing to do with drugs. it's nerves the "Swallow purple terror candy" is aspirin terror candy refers to her taking it to clam her nerves she goes on to sing about how she is normally a strong person and for some reason she is nervous "This dichromatic vision Of one who does not care To sipping cocktail sedatives" it's a good song for any person who has been nervous to see or meet someone. | |

| "Swallow purple terror candy" I think this refers to LSD?! "Dichromatic" never heard this word before but it means 2 coloured. This was co written by Gary Clark of Danny Wilson best know for Marys Prayer. One of my Favorite Natalie songs but I love them all! | |

| Natalie Imbruglia has said that this song is about liking someone, that feeling of "butterflies in your stomach." But at the same time, it's feeling really nervous whenever that person's around. By admitting to yourself that you like them, it's like you're giving them the power to hurt you (in case they reject you), it's giving them control. I think it's a really beautiful but painful representation of that feeling | |

| i honestly think this is about liking someone but not being able to tell them, but to admire them whenever their around the phrase "Butterflies, Butterflies, Cut the stomach out and hand it over" i think it's the sensation of butterflies in ur stomach obviously..and also kind of saying kill me! for feeling this way about you!! and the first line in the song i think the purple terro cadyl signifies the whole aspect of this obsession this Major crush..But also knowing inside that they could never be able to get him\her to like them back the same way!! i love the lyrics to this song it's almost like a poem!! layers and layers of emotion!! | |

| I always felt this song was about moving on to the next step in your life. I feel you grow up and become a butterfly and so it's a very nostalgic seeming song to me. | |
