From: Brandon
Subject: Crd. for "Wonder" by Natalie Merchant
from the album Tigerlily
Here's what I've worked out in terms of the chords. I haven't worked on the
lead
guitar stuff however.
First of all, you need to capo the 1st fret on your guitar.
The chords I have given are relative to the capo.
Intro : C G Am G F (x2)
Verse 1 :
C G Am G F
Doctors have come from distant cities
C G Am
just to see me stand over my bed
G F
disbelieving what they're seeing
Chorus : C G Am
they say I must be one of the wonders
G F
of God's own creation
C G Am
and as far as they can see they can offer
G F
no explanation
Verse 2 : same pattern of chords as Verse 1 (C G Am G F)
newspapers ask intimate questions
want confessions they reach into my head
to steal the glory of my story
Chorus
Bridge : Dm C Am F
I believe
Dm C Am F
fate smiled and destiny
Am F
laughed as she came to my cradle
Am F
"know this child will be able"
Am F
laughed as my body she lifted
Am F
"know this child will be gifted
Am F C G Am
with love, with patience and with faith,
G F
she'll make her way"
verse 3 (just like verses 1 & 2)
people see me I'm a challenge
to your balance, I'm over your heads
how I confound you and astound you
to know I must be one the wonders of...(Chorus)
bridge (just like the 1st one)
I believe fate smiled & destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
"know this child will be able"
laughed as she came to my mother
"know this child will not suffer"
laughed as my body she lifted
"know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience and with faith
she'll make her way...she'll make her way
I hope that this helps out someone!

| This is a pro-life song. We search for reasons to explain everything in life. It is a very difficult thing to understand why a person should go through life with what we feel is such a curse. Seeing a handicapped person is uncomfortable for most of us. It reminds us of our own burdens and our lack of control over our world. This song suggests that when science fails us we can accept the wonders of life through faith and in God we can even believe that such a helpless being can actually have a wonderful life. | |

| I don't know what you mean by pro-life, Motha, but it is definitely a spiritual song. | |

| I think this is a song with excellent insight ... and it just makes me feel good. I believe it's about people who are "different" ... born disabled in some ways, but incredibly gifted in others. | |

| I sincerely doubt this is a pro-life song. That doesn't sound like Natalie. It is definately an uplifiting song and makes me feel good everytime I hear. So few songs are positive and speak of joyful things. This one just makes your heart melt. | |

| I think this song is just about amazing women, from young to old, from disabled to not. The video is filled with a variety of women. | |
