Great, fun song. I love the way it builds into an explosion; from the very beginning there's a sense of moving toward something big that's just going to knock your socks off. It fits the words really well - something like a love affair begins in a small way and then before you know it it's just this big huge beautiful happy thing. "The hands, touchin' hands" part gives me the goosebumps because there's such a sense of anticipation that builds and builds and builds until BAM! Sweet Caroline, bum bum bum - he chorus is incredibly infectious. There's a cool little old place in NE Minneapolis called Nye's - it's famous if you're from around there. There's a piano bar where people sit and sing along to songs this little old lady who's been there for like 8000 years plays. I've heard this song done there and it's a lot of fun with a crowd. I'd love to be in Fenway to experience that some time. I can't listen to this song without getting a smile on my face and feeling happy. And yes - it's about loving someone who loves you back and you can be together for always and everything is perfect. *sigh* It doesn't always feel this way, but boy when it does...!

i think it was best when sung outside MSG the night playoff ticket bracelets were given out. Or maybe at Nassau Collesium when thousands of Rangers fans joined in signing this after destroying the islanders

My parents named my little sister Caroline after this song, so naturally it means a lot to me. Extremely sweet song about a relationship he didn't expect to last, but did. I love it.

Don't know what it means, but in the 8th inning at every Boston Red Sox home game they play it, and the whole crowd stands and sings, its pretty amazing to be there for

Who gives a shit about New York hockey teams??? I certainly don't. The story that I heard about why this is played in Fenway goes like this: the music/sound system director at Fenway has a daughter named Caroline and on her birthday a few years ago, he decided to play the song in the middle of the 8th. He got such a large, unexpected reaction from the crowd that he played it again the next night. And when the crowd continued to sing along every night, they started putting the lyrics up on the jumbotron, and they've done it that way every home game since. Millions of citizens of Red Sox Nation recognize this as a Red Sox song, and personally, I think it's the only Neil Diamond song where it is acceptable to sing along.
