| I love this song..it's the deepest one that I have heard off loose...It sounds like she's sayin that you mean nothing to me right now, but maybe you could mean every thing later..this song is one of the few I am hearing now that really makes you think.. | |

| i think it means that this person she doesnt even know can become everything to her slowlys just by saying the right things, lik it says"oh you don't mean nothing at all to me no you don't mean nothing at all to me do you got what it takes to set me free oh you could mean everything to me" its like shes saying you dont mean anything now but u can mean something, and that she has so much to offer to the right person.Like meeting the guy/girl u love when u first meet them u dont right away know this is the one, it takes all the right words. | |

| i totally agree with carannilwen and Jigglez in terms of thinking nelly having lost her artistic identity with loose...but then i heard this song...as a fan of her early stuff it's good to see maneater and promiscuous were probably more about her artistically growing and experimenting rather than losing herself...this is an excellent song | |

| I kind of agree with marlonsway.I think it’s about her wanting him to either “say it right” meaning get it right, make it work, she believes they can. But every time they try, things go good but then he lets her down someway “ you either stand or you fall when your will is broken” . She wants him to do the right thing so bad or just let her go. She tries hard to convince her self he means nothing” oh you don’t mean nothing to me at all” , but only he can set her free and deep down she knows this, by him either leaving or saying it right…. I could totally be wrong …great song!!! | |

| ...Well the beats SPEAKS to me. Nelly (In This Song) is not sad nor happy. She sounds more strong and assertive than anything else... Theres the hollowness in the beat as well as the upbeatness thats still in there. *In the day,in the night, say it all,say it right = -Say "I Love You" if you mean it and youre really gonna show up to it (Day or Night...Not Just When Ur Sleeping Together), if not dont say it at all. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd Part Of 1st Verse: (Following "Say It Right" -You can either be a jerk or show me you love me (ALL THE TIME) you either love me or you feel nothing for me at all. Do what your heart tells you, because otherwise the "plan" is either to get some ass (From Nelly) or just plane ol BS. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chorus: -If your gonna be a jerk, sleep with me, and not love me you can be shit to me. Everyone has the capacity to love which is what Nelly wants. If I had your love, then youd make me happy (set me free) and thats all i want (everything). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd Verse: I cant say that its my fault that im feeling confused (Lost). I cant say I want to date some kind of freakishly nice dude (light) but I cant have you thinking you can step all over me (dark) either. Nor can i say that i am oblivious to who you are and also goes back to "When Theres No Time For Jokin" bit which means, I only have one life and time is running out, i cant be wasting my time with your games. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3rd Verse: "Something I Made" and "Another Brick That Ive Laid" are pretty much saying "Ive worked too damn hard trying to live my life to the fullest, ive accomplished a lot, dont just screw it up. As for the whole "Body" bit, shes saying that you need to be worthy of it. Shes saying "A Place God Knows" because its the most precious thing shes got. (meaning her abstinence/ something like that... and you better be sure you love me or else youd be sinning (Which Is Why She Brings Up God) Im Hoping Its Not A Pun When Nelly Says "A Place God Knows, You Should Know Thiis Place Is Holy" and meaning God--->Holy---> Genitals... or else this song is complete bs along with the meaning ive been trying to explain... | |

| I agree with drunkonshadows on the meaning of this song. Songs and music are very personal things for me, so if I'm experiencing something deep I usually feel it through songs. What this song means to me is that Nelly doesn't want some guy around just so he can get some. She wants to be loved in the DAY and the NITE, not just be told all the right things at nite time. I think she also makes it clear that she's aware of what's going on and she's giving the guy an ultamadum. If you just want me for sex then I don't want that. That's what I'm kind of experiencing right now with a guy. I was really disappointed to find out that we have such different lifestyles, but I feel like he could mean a lot more to me if things were different and if he actually cared about me as a person and not just sexually. Sorry about the rambling everyone. | |

| I completely agree with carannilwen, i loved her first album and Powerless off her second blew me away. It was refreshing to notice she didnt see a need to take off her clothes and still be successful, and then Maneater and Promiscuous had me convinced she lost her touch. In Say It Right it reminds me of how her old music used to be, gueninely original and full of spark . I think it means she knows who she is as a person confidently, but shes found someone that has the power to make her vulnerable, and shes challenged by it. | |

| Though the song is extremely good, I'm not entirely sure of its meaning. I'd say it's about two people attracted to eachother but hesitant to make a move, they both want the other to "say it right" and sweep them off their feet. Meanwhile because of their fears they try to deny the attraction. I could be really wrong though, would love to hear more input | |

| I agree with the comment that say it's a sad song. I get a real sense of sadness whenever I listen to it. Some of her facial expressions in the video reflect that. Her voice is lovely in this. I honestly don't know what a precise meaning is, but the overwhelming sadness and the lyrics like 'set me free', 'when your will is broken' and 'you don't mean (no) nothing at all to me' suggest there's some kind of emotional damage and frustration there. Great song, I've never been a particularly big Nelly fan but this is really good. | |

| they have broken up. not on good terms. she doesn't know what went wrong and she want's him to tell her, to "say it right." she tells herself he doesn't mean anything to her, but she can't let it go, until she hears it right, and get's closure.... to set her free. and if he doesn't "say it right" she thinks there might still be a chance because she still loves him. | |

| she says she didn't know what it meant when she wrote it, it was merely based on a feeling she felt. although.. to me it means: all or nothing, you're sure or not..but she's sure for the moment. and if you don't take the risk, right now, then you lost a chance, to see who this person really is, "from my hands i could give you something that i made" : love and beauty are things made. they have more thought, genuine. | |

| Well I think that the song is about her wanting the person that she is with to break up with her. She wants him to come up to her and tell her thats it over so she can be "set free." I remember her saying that she wrote this song out of the blue. I think that its about a break up and she is waiting for him to say that it is over and she is encouraging it by saying "you dont mean nothing to me." But I am a little sketchy on it, I somewhat agree with robotsloveme and nk42390. | |

| This song was like that first breath of mountain air you take after being in the city for a year. By that, I mean that I was a hardcore Nelly Furtado fan back in the time of Folklore. But then, this new album comes out, and all the singles I hear are shallow, corporate, and so un-Nelly that it depressed me. But then, this came, and the first thing I thought was, "Oh, thank God, she's still there." I was afraid that she'd lost herself to the shallowness of the music industry today. | |
