| I was listening to this song yesterday and trying to think of a meaning. I was driving to pick up my boy from work, and it (sort of) came to me. I pictured an older man who had his heart broken, walking around the world, stealing ("collecting") others' hearts, so that they wouldn't have to feel pain. Like, if they were in a relationship that was about to get ugly, he would take their heart so that they wouldn't have to go through what he did. Just an idea... the only one that came to mind. | |

| Change of heart.. I think it's about an obsession. When you listen to the first words in the song, you get the idea of somebody being there for someone for emotional support. Kind of like what Buggie said but it sounds like much more, probably somebody that Warrel loved. This is the best song I've heard from them. | |

| I read somewhere that it means something like people are lured to the Heart Collectors song and give them their hearts [souls, lives]. Basically people who believe that they have nothing left. So this picture painted by this idea is that of a man in dark robes (like the Grim Reaper) walking down a lonely path. Surrounded by withering trees and a bright moonlight looming overhead. I envision him carrying some sort of bag or knapsack to keep his earnings..... Just me though..... | |

| This song is so incredible. The emotion conveyed through the vocals, bass, drums, Loomis' guitar riff is astounding. But for the meaning, I agree with Chaos_Sheer. Incredible. | |

| Wow, I think I've thought about this song too much. I've got a bit of a warped interpretation here. Basically I was wondering what the stage actor references meant, and I came up with this, lol. Basically, I think 'heart collector' can be seen as a metaphor for an actor's ability to make people feel how he wants them to feel. "Just believe when you can't believe anymore" - suspension of disbelief. "I own your tears anyway" - the actor is the one who made them cry and therefore ‘owns their tears’. "and I am you and we are not afraid" - again, just controlling how the audience feels. "And I won't be feeling hollow for so long" - an actor may have a hollow life himself, but when he's able to slip into someone else’s shoes, he doesn’t. Same goes for the audience. "The corrupt eclectic takes his fatal bow" - fatal because the play is over and his character is essentially dead until the next performance. "And we won't be here for long" - we won't be in reality for long, because we (the audience) will be taken on a journey (the play). Then when the line’s repeated, it can mean that the play is over and we're heading home. "The heart collector sings his song again" - he may be able to be someone else, but only while he's performing, and he's always going to be performing the same story (song). The problem with this is it’s switching between 1st 2nd and 3rd person doesn’t really make sense for this interpretation. But hey, it was fun to switch it around for a minute there, lol | |

| I love the song... and I think the "heart collector" is one who is helping another through a tough spot in life, hence "and I am you... and we are not afraid" and "I own your tears anyway.." however, this song sounds WAY too similar to "Believe in Nothing." | |

| this obviously has something to do with loss of hope, and the person seems to be planning to commit suicide. the "heart collector" can be seen as death, who is prepared to give him the release he longs for... anyway, this is an amazing song, so incredibly emotional it gives me chills, and that is RARE in metal... | |

| It seems to me that the Heart Collector is a metaphor for one who seeks to fill an empty void through meaningless relationships and sex. You become lost in your age-old routine and yet continue anyways (Just believe when you can't believe anymore), decieving yourself to the truth of your actions, that your 'words fall out like fire'. The song begins describing 'the actor without tears' which shows a man heartbroken. Through long years, the lines of self control have blurred (as dark rivers have carved them, and we all know that water erodes rock and could quite easily erode these lines of self control). However, the actor fears being alone despite what has happened and with words and lies, seeks meaningless relatinoships and sex to fill the void using such words as "I am you and we are not afraid". Through each relationship or sexual encounter he believes that it'll be the end to his pain (Nevermore to feel the pain), yet it always returns as 'the words fall out like fire). But at that point in his life, all he can do is believe when you can't believe anymore. We will not be here for long as the moment passes, the act is done and the temporary fix to this void is gone and the Heart Collector sings his song again... Perhaps one day, it goes too far. He realises how fruitless his persuit is and is unable to hide his shame, as all the outlets are gone and the corrupt eclectic takes his fatal blow. | |

| But looking at it in a more generic way, it's most likely the stage actor references are a metaphor for something else, not the other way around. I think it might be refering to basically any comfort a person seeks when they're just down in the dumps (whether about a relationship or something else). And saying "The heart collector sings his song again" is basically saying 'life is pain and you'll be feeling this crappy more than once'. | |
