| great song... i love Warrel's vocals on the chorus. the way he says "Narcosynthesis" is just awesome. :D as far as the meaning goes, I'm not sure. i could see the religious view, but I can also see the continuation of DNB stance. i think Warrel intentionally wrote this song to be open ended and full of different meanings. | |

| ok, im not very good at lyrics but i think this song is about the united states and all the stupid people in it. the word narco comes from narcotics or drugs or stupidity or whatever and synthesis means to bring together, so narcosynthesis would be the bringing together of idiots. i dunno if im right but if i am then this is one hell of a funny song, "how did it come to this, narcosynthesis..." if i'm wrong then someone please feel free to correct me... | |

| how does "crucify your ideals" mean to "force them on others"? this is a blind assumption, as is the statement that the church has to be "punished" for their hypocritical ways. they have no presence in the lyrics. | |

| Here are some definitions that might help any trying to figure this song out. I know I don't really get it. narcosynthesis: nar·co·syn·the·sis n. pl. nar·co·syn·the·ses Narcoanalysis directed toward making the patient recall repressed memories and emotional traumas. narcoanalysis: nar·co·a·nal·y·sis n. pl. nar·co·a·nal·y·ses Psychotherapy conducted while the patient is in a sleeplike state induced by barbiturates or other drugs, especially as a means of releasing repressed feelings, thoughts, or memories. Its use is restricted to circumstances when there is a compelling, immediate need for a patient's responses. pyschotherapy: psy·cho·ther·a·py n. pl. psy·cho·ther·a·pies The treatment of mental and emotional disorders through the use of psychological techniques designed to encourage communication of conflicts and insight into problems, with the goal being relief of symptoms, changes in behavior leading to improved social and vocational functioning, and personality growth. | |

| I don't get any of the meanings mentioned here. (Though I haven't yet heard Dreaming Neon Black and I don't know Judas Priest) For me the meaning is straightforward: The first verse and chorus are the feelings of a mentally ill person who is undergoing narcoanalysis. This treatment involves using narcotics to induce a hypnotic state to force the patient to release repressed thoughts and emotions. It is very invasive of privacy and involves the doctor explicitly introducing alien feelings into the patient's mind. The patient feels a lack of self respect both because of the treatment and because of the need for it. The rest of the song appears to contains the nihilistic and unhappy thoughts which led to the mental illness. When he talks of searching, he may be referring to the doctors searching in his mind, or he may be referring to his searching for meaning in life. When he says, "please salvage my soul", he is either asking the doctors to find something in his mind for him to hold onto, or he is asking time to bring his life some meaning. I believe the god referred to in the second verse ("alienate...") and denied in the fourth ("victimise...") can be thought of in the context of this song to be interchangeable with the aforementioned "meaning" that his life lacks. I suspect this is the only pop song ever to use the words "vilipend" and "condign", let alone in the same line. I hardly imagine most of the teeny-moshers and headbangers at their concerts have come across them before (meaning no disrespect). | |

| Nevermore is an atheistic band. The religious idea makes the most sense.. "Drain the color from my eyes. Patronize me. Energize me." "We are bleeding for an unseen GOD".. that gives it away, except it's better written on the album Enemies Of Reality. Great band, and the drummer is fantastic but the similarities in the lyrics makes this band get old fast | |

| this is the first song i heard by nevermore, and it's amazing. i like what you said about being under the grip of organized religion. "please salvage my soul" seems to keep with the divine part. crazy good song no matter what. | |

| Warrell Dane has said in some interviews that some songs on DHIADW are continuations of DNB. I take this song as one of those. He trys to forget the trauma from the DNB story an move on.....but he can never quite get rid of the memories | |

| It's another song about the senseless of religion, I believe. Narcosynthesis is sythesised (false) sleep. Being drugged, or hypnotised, in other words. The band is using narcosynthesis as an analogy for society under the grip of religion, which leaves the believers constantly searching for something they will never find. If you don't believe me, then come on, take a look at the lyrics - "we are the last ones and we're bleeding for an unseen god". In other words, we're asleep, being fed lies by the organised church. Other religious imagery - "crucify your ideals", or in other words, act as a martyr for the sake of your morals, and force them on others. "Vilipend and amend the sins you condign" - in other words they are saying that the church acts hypocritically and preaches about the evil of the sins that the church itself deserves to be punished for. If anybody disagrees, let me know. | |
