I don't consider this transcription "complete" yet. I'm still debating
the capo placement on the sixth fret (while I'm pretty sure I have the
right key and chords, maybe the song is played somewhere else). Also,
I'd like to TAB the picking pattern. Anyway, this is pretty good so have
fun! -- John
"Bizarre Love Triangle"
-----------------------
by New Order
As performed by Frente
Transcribed by John S. Jacob
Capo on the 6th fret
[Picking: G]
C D
Every time I think of you
Bm C
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
D
It's no problem of mine but it's a problem I find
Bm C
Living a life that I can't leave behind
D
There's no sense in telling me
Bm C
The wisdom of a fool won't set you free
But that's the way that it goes
D
And it's what nobody knows
Bm C
While every day my confusion grows
D
Every time I see you falling
Bm C
I get down on my knees and pray
D
I'm waiting for that final moment
Bm C
You'll say the words that I can't say
[Picking: G]
I feel fine and I feel good
I'm feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way, I just don't know what to say
Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday
I'm not sure what this could mean
I don't think you're what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I hurt someone else
Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You'll say the words that I can't say
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You'll say the words that I can't say
[Strum: G]

| Because of the name, I'm inclined to think that this song is about the singer loving someone already in a relationship. This is reinforced further in "I'm waiting for that final moment/You say the words that I can't say," for he can't tell her that he loves her until she breaks up with her significant other. | |

| Words from someone who was (is?) a fool for love: maybe once you forgive yourself you'll stop feeling awkward. I've heard some people can have 2 and still be emotionally intact. If that's so, then there's nothing to forgive anyway!! | |

| I liked Exsony's explanation (very funny!). I think it's about the own writer's bizarre love triangle and his own undecision. But like some of you, I had always connected it to my own situation: me loving a guy so much (with him being sometimes a lover, sometimes a friend for more than five years now) and he always belonging to someone else (his looong-time girlfriend mostly, and some other lovers). Feeling more and more in love everytime, even when you are so aware that you won't ever be together in a proper relationship...how hurting and silent suffering...you being the observer most of the time, unsure of the other person's feelings or intentions towards you, the guilt and the pleasure, the joy and the pain that this situation brings to you. How you want it to end but you are so damn scared of him saying and deciding you will be out of his life forever because it might hurt his partner (what about my feelings, ah?) (besides this guy I'm talking about loves this song) So I listen to it and I feel (shympatetically) he's talking about the "third" angle of the triangle (me). | |

It makes you want to dress up 80's and go out to an 80's party and have fun the way they used to in the 80's. It makes you want to yell at the top of your lungs "TUBULAR!' or "RADICOOL!" or better yet...GAG ME WITH A SPOON. You have to love the 80's. | |

| i feel a bit embarrassed being the first to even be saying this, but does anybody else think this song is FULL of homosexuality? i mean not necessarily saying NEW ORDER is gay, but it could even be their feelings on the decade of the AIDS scare, the 80s. ''It's no problem of mine But it's a problem I find Living a life that I can't leave behind..." (it's not wrong to be gay, but that was the way he has been brought up, that's what he was taught, making it even harder for him to accept his homosexuality. so he could also be commenting on how society feels about homosexuality) ''And it's what nobody knows well every day my confusion grows'' (again, being confused about his sexuality. he is not out of the closet yet.) ''Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray'' (this is where your red light should be flashing. nobody else even touched this line. SEXUAL IMPLICATIONS GALORE!) ''I feel fine and I feel good I'm feeling like I never should'' (he is happier and more satisfied because he faces the truth when he is with the man. but he feels like he ''never should'' is more commentary on how society's treatment towards homosexuals.) ''Whenever I get this way I just don't know what to say Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday?'' i think he is commenting on the previous line ''i'm feeling like i never should'' should be in quotations, he's wondering why he just can't BE with the guy, and he wishes there weren't any complications. and lastly, i'd like to comment on the title of the song. mainly the reason i don't think i'm looking too deeply into the meaning as a whole is because it's a BIZARRE love triange, BIZARRE. get it? | |

| Ok here it goes for all of you... Let's first begin with the meaning of a love triangle. A love triangle involves three people, as in the three angles of a triangle. A love triangle should not be confused with a polyamory, where when the three parties agree. A love triangle is when two people are in love, but a new third member becomes involved with one of the pre-loved lovers. This causes a three way love and a two way rivalry. Ok, now that thats all clear and out of the way let's get to the meaning of the song. Every time I think of you I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue (First we see pain expressed with the lyrics "shot right through." This pain comes when he thinks of his lover. Simple eh?) It's no problem of mine But it's a problem I find Living a life that I can't leave behind ( As you can see, he has no problem with loving his lover. Although he mentions that he has now found a problem. The problem is "living a life that I can't leave behind," Meaning he's living a life with his lover, but he can't leave her behind. These thoughts implie that he is going to leave anyway, and thats the problem. Remember this is dealing with love. It's hard but he wants to leave but he wants to stay. boom!) But there's no sense in telling me The wisdom of the fool won't set you free But that's the way that it goes And it's what nobody knows well every day my confusion grows ( This states that you can not change his mind about wanting to leave his lover. Ok, lets say that Someone is telling you to stop loving someone else, and to keep loving who you love now. You can agree with this, BUT you can not just stop loving this other person. This wisdom a fool (the fool could even be himself, which he is probably referring to) tells you will not set you free. The he pretty much says; thats just how love works and no one knows why. This all just makes it more confusing.) Chorus time! Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray I'm waiting for that final moment You say the words that I can't say (Ok, this is the break down! This is where it shows his love for another is tearing him apart. Know why its tearing him apart?... well because he loves his lover still. He just cant keep doing this to her/him. Alright I'll explain how I came up with this. I'm only guessing that "falling" refers to feeling down, sad, ect. So in this case the lover is finding out that he maybe involved with someone else. "Getting down on your knees and praying" is and act of sorrow and compassion. In this case to his lover. Get it? Well now that she knows his impureness, he want's her to break up with him instead of him doing it, quote "you say that words that I can't say." Now, guess what! this isn't in the song but I guess that because he still loves her, he will feel better if she dumps him rahter than him doing it.) I feel fine and I feel good I'm feeling like I never should (sigh*... Riddle me this, riddle me that. This is simple. He's feeling good and feeling fine... but wait! How could he feel this way if he's going to lose his lover?? I guess he shouldn't be feeling this way... rite?) Whenever I get this way I just don't know what to say (Well you know now that feeling fine and good, should make him feel wrong. Geez, I hope your understanding this.) Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday I'm not sure what this could mean I don't think you're what you seem (Why can't we still be in love?! You know like before! oh' yeah wait.. what am I saying?? I can't do this anymore because I think you don't love me like you used to.) I do admit to myself That if I hurt someone else Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be (At last the final lines. This makes it very clear, so here we go... He's saying if he leaves his lover for someone new it could be a mistake. So he wouldn't know that the lover he left was the one meant to be. You know when someone says they're "meant to be" it means that they're meant to be together forever. But this story is that if its a mistake to leave her then it wasn't meant to be, and that he lost his chance. I hope you understand all this. I don't have time to correct errors and punctuation, hah. I tried not to say if the lover is a male or female because the song never says also. I may have slipped with the word "her" so please excuse it. I tried to be as clear as I can without confusing anyone, althought I tend to do that. So yea I hope you get the meaning of this song. Oh and remember we're all entitled to our own opinions. :] | |

| I gotta say iamamonster, I never would've thought've that interpretation but it almost makes sense! Can't say it's the one I'd go with tho. So I'm wondering now if the third party is actually the drugs getting in the way of his relationship rather than another person. I loved siobahnit's too. | |

| I mostly agree with ckdamascus, except that I think it may be from a (potential) new love's POV. This guy is interested in a girl who's last relationship just ended. She's still stuck on her ex, hoping they'll get back together, and this new guy is aware. Yet he waits for "that final moment" when she finally lets go of the ex and asks the other guy out. If all that made any sense at all. | |

| i cannot stress how WRONG YOU ALL ARE. about interpretations, that is. all the lovely memories were well-shared. this song has been one of my favourites for the length of my entire life and i have thought about it before. so here is my interpretation: this song is about a man who is in love with a woman who perpetually cheats on him. he understands that she treats him badly and he is miserable, but he can't leave her with the bizarre and deceptive way she has captivated him. i'll do the break-by-break as well. Every time I think of you I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue It's no problem of mine But it's a problem I find Living a life that I can't leave behind (Here is the obvious statement that he is miserable, and that he cannot let go of a life where lies to himself, pretending not to know of his beloved's infidelities) But there's no sense in telling me The wisdom of the fool won't set you free But that's the way that it goes And it's what nobody knows well every day my confusion grows (the wisdom of the FOOL. he is being played by the woman he loves and his confusion lies in whether he should learn to leave her or provoke her to finally confess that she is cheating on him) Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray I'm waiting for that final moment You say the words that I can't say (the words, of course? i'm unfaithful to you. i'm going to leave you. you make me unhappy. these are the things he so desperately wants her to say so he can finally have reasons to leave her) I feel fine and I feel good I'm feeling like I never should Whenever I get this way I just don't know what to say Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday (He is fine and good, though it's a charade. he wishes the relationship could be like it was in the beginning, just the two of them.) I'm not sure what this could mean I don't think you're what you seem I do admit to myself That if I hurt someone else Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be (im ENGLISH and the person who sings this song has an ENGLISH accent - the correct lyrics go: i do admit to myself that if i HAD someone else... etc. he's saying if he gives up on her now, despite her treating him badly, he'll never know if they can pull through it.) so, there it is folks. the bizarre love triangle. the desperate and confused lover, the infidel, and the man or woman on the side. | |

| Right now this song has a lot of meaning for me. I am in the middle of my own bizarre love triangle. I've always thought this was a great song but that I'd hate to feel a close connection with the words. Now here I am, engaged and had an affair with someone from my past who happened to rock my world. My brain is swirling. I'm not a cheater, but here I am cheating. And the worst part is I feel no guilt for what I've done. This song really hits me where it hurts. Every time I think of the guy I cheated with I get a shock right through me like a bolt of blue. I'm trying to make things right in my head, but the wisdom of a fool won't set me free, and every day my confusion grows. Now there's going to be so much awkwardness with my fiance and with the other guy, why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday? | |

| This song brings back a lot of memories for me. Back when I lived in the dorms at school there was this girl who would wake me up early every Saturday morning to do laundry with her. I would drag myself all hungover, down to the laundry room. She would bring her boom box and listen to music and dance as we did our laundry. This was one of her favorite songs. It moved me to see this girl dance and sing so early in the morning, so happy. It still moves me, it makes me happy inside, I miss doing that with her so much. | |

| The singer is in a Bizarre Love Triangle. He loves one woman, who is now his ex-girlfriend. He is also in a relationship with another, new woman. However, the singer is not certain if he really does love the new woman or not. He wishes to go back to his ex-girlfriend and waits for her to say "come back to me!" He fears that if he makes any action he might hurt his current girlfriend. > Every time I think of you > I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue Everytime I think of my ex-girlfriend, I get a shocked (probably by the fact that he laments over his lost relationship). > It's no problem of mine > But it's a problem I find > Living a life that I can't leave behind It isn't a problem of his (but it really is if you look at it). He is living a life that he cannot leave behind. He wants to live a life with his ex-girlfriend... he can't put the past behind him. He is a past dweller. > But there's no sense in telling me > The wisdom of the fool won't set you free You can tell the singer that "let go, she is no longer your girlfriend, go on with life." But try telling that to anyone who is deeply in love. Love is blind and the singer still wishes to be with her despite the fact it is "wrong" and nonsensical. > But that's the way that it goes > And it's what nobody knows > well every day my confusion grows No one really knows why we do these illogical things for love. Every day the internal rift between the ex-girlfriend and new girlfriend confuses the singer more and more. He loves his new girlfriend, doesn't he? Yet, he still desires his ex-girlfriend. > Every time I see you falling > I get down on my knees and pray > I'm waiting for that final moment > You say the words that I can't say The singer hopes the ex-girlfriend will fall (i.e. get into a bad situation with her current boyfriend). The final words are "come back to me" or "I love you"... basically he wants his ex-girlfriend to make the move. > I feel fine and I feel good > I'm feeling like I never should At this point the singer mentions how he is with another girl. He feels fine and great. But he regrets his decision. > Whenever I get this way > I just don't know what to say Whenever he thinks about his love triangle, he is confused. He isn't sure what to say ... he isn't sure which girl he really loves as he still has feelings for both. > Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday Of course, he wishes everything was back to square one. Him being back with the ex-girlfriend and the new girlfriend never meeting him... everyone all happy with no problems. > I'm not sure what this could mean > I don't think you're what you seem He is still confused, and he isn't sure if the new girlfriend is really someone who should be his girlfriend. > I do admit to myself > That if I hurt someone else > Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be The implication here is that to hurt someone else means he is going to be more serious with another relationship. However, in doing so this seals the deal that he may never get back with his ex-girlfriend. This somewhat contradicts my other statements, but I think it is implied that he is "hanging out" with someone else new. He should move on with his life, but he holds back because he hopes his ex-girlfriend will come back to him. If he becomes more serious with his new friend, then he dooms the old relationship forever. He fears this commitment... and thus is in the Bizarre Love Triangle. | |
