F
Maybe I've forgotten
Bb
The name and the address
F
Of everyone I've ever known
Bb
It's nothing I regret
Dm Am
Save it for another day
Bb
It's the school exam
C [Fill 1]
The kids have run away

[Riff 1]
I would like a place I can call my own
Have a conversation on my telephone
Wake up everyday, that would be a start
I would not complain with my wounded heart

[Riff 2]
I was upset, you see
Almost all the time
You used to be a stranger
Now you are mine

F
I wouldn't even trust you
Bb
I've not that much to give
F
We're dealing in the limits, and
Bb
We don't know who with
Dm Am
You may think that I'm out of hand
Bb
That I'm naive, I'll understand
C Am
On this occasion, it's not true
Bb C [Fill 1]
Look at me, I'm not you

[Riff 1]
I would like a place I can call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up everyday, that would be a start
I would not complain with my wounded heart

[Riff 2]
I was a short fuse
Burning all the time
You were a complete stranger
Now you are mine

[Bridge: F Bb F Bb Dm Am Bb C] [Fill 1]

[Riff 1]
I would like a place I can call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up everyday, that would be a start
I would not complain with my wounded heart

[Riff 1]
Just wait 'till tomorrow
I guess that's what they all say
Just before they fall apart

This is such a beautiful song about living a life with no regrets. I have all of these hopes and dreams and sometimes I fear I will not be able to do all the things that I would like to. Saying "just wait till tomorrow" is what so many people say and that is why so many people have regrets. I completely intend to live my life to the fullest and live without any regret by living for myself and in the moment.

It sounds to me like the narrator here _is_ regretting something. On the one hand, there's a life he's left behind ("maybe I've forgotten the name and address of everyone I've ever known"), maybe because the people in his old life, for whatever reason--and not a good one--didn't approve of his current relationship ("you used to be a stranger, now you are mine"). On the other hand, he's not totally satisfied with the current state of affairs either, not because he wants to go back to the old life, but because there are things he hasn't done yet because of the current situation ("you may think that I'm out of hand, that I'm naive, I'll understand," and of course, "just wait till tomorrow"). This could be one of several things: a guy that ran away from home because of a girl and is now in a bad state of affairs financially, someone who gave up a high-paying job and took a huge risk, or, yes, a guy who got hooked on drugs and is slowly losing touch with reality and in denial about it. Whatever its interpretation, there is something haunting about the music under the lyrics, and whenever I hear it I start thinking about either the past or the future.

Like many New Order songs this is about drugs. Look at the lyric "Wake up every day, that would be a start". Sometimes the drugs take hold of him so much that when he falls asleep he can't even wake up. And going back to the fantastic last verse as pointed out by roger wilco, its the famous last words of an addict who says they are gonna give up, "Just wait till tomorrow". I think you can work out the last 2 lines for yourself :)

I think it's about a druggie whose girlfriend is disgusted with him with how low he's sunk. She often pesters and lectures him to get off the junk -- "Save it for another day, it's a school exam and the kids have run away" and the "Look at me, I'm not you" shows he's fed up with her lecturing. He may have hit rock bottom, but he's "happy" where he's at, being a junkie. He may have forgotten a lot of important things as a result of it, but he doesn't regret it. He doesn't want to hear any more lecturing, so he wants rid of her, not caring how much it would hurt him -- it seems they met at a time when he was depressed ("I was upset you see/Almost all the time/You were a complete stranger/Now you are mine"). What seemed like a good thing going at first ended up being a hassle -- not either to blame, but the drugs/booze/substance. "Just wait until tomorrow/That's what they all say/Just before they fall apart"
