Awesome Nick Drake tune. This is off of the album Pink Moon, which is the last album he
did before overdosing on anti-depressants. You definitely want to learn this one,
it'll sharpen your pickin style.

b: I can take a road that'll see me through
Verse 2:-
a: You can take a road that takes you to the stars now
b: I can take a road that'll see me through
b: I can take a road that'll see me through
b: I can take a road that'll see me through
NOTES:-
I've not bothered to type in the timing of the notes, but it's very
easy to figure out just by listening to the CD; at least you'll know
where to put your fingers...
There are places in the song where there are minor variations, but I
think it's nicer if you just put these in for yourself. Whatever Nick
Drake was at the time of Pink Moon, he certainly wasn't a
perfectionist
in terms of rigid guitar playing. Keep it sounding scruffy and loose
and
you won't go far wrong.

| Given his history with depression, I would say that Drake is talking about how his view of the world differs from those that are "normal." He is acknowledging that they can take their own path because it works for them, but it will never work for him because of his condition. People with depression many times are unable to go out a limb, take chances, etc. because they run the risk of shocking themselves. Sometimes they can't recover from such shocks. The path to the stars is the one that may be riskier but will have great rewards. Drake was saying that he can't really shoot for the stars because he's just trying to get through each day. | |

| I personally think this song is about finding your own path in life. I think he realizes that he is destined for a different way of life than the norm and thus knows he must take a different road to 'see him through.' This is one of my favorite Nick Drake songs and it is my own personal anthem. | |

| I love this song so much, and everything else Nick wrote. I agree that it's a song about his acceptance, or devotion or whatever to his angst. I can completely understand what he means. It's not that he was necessarily depressed and angry about anything. It's just that this is how he saw the world for better or worse. | |

| the first two lines in this song means to me, that everyone always seems to have the anwser to a bigger and better thing in life, but he knows the ending(death?) so he will take the road that he knows best b/c its simpler that way. wishing and hoping and grinding your way through life isn't a way to live...he may not know much more, but he knows that life to him isn't keeping your head in the clouds(stars?) | |

| The other person sees what he wants to see and imagines everything is going to be ok, but Nick knows it isn't going to be like that. | |

| the album pink moon shows a lot about Drake. It lays bare his weakness but also his strenght. I think this song is about the brave decision to be strong. | |

| My interpretation: You see your cheery method of things I'll take my way, it works for me. (angst, realist stuff) - Love this song.. | |
