This song, to me, talks about the relation that parents have with their children. They want their children to do well and to know that they are always loved. This is a great song. One of the parts that hits home is when they sing, “My greatest fear will be that you will crash and burn and I won't feel your fire.” …Meaning, as a parent you are scared that when you child most needs you, you will be unable to be there.

I don't really think its something Godly, but to each their own. I'm weird, I think its a love song, in an abnormal way. As though he's telling someone he loves to go follow her dreams. . .and he loves her enough to stay with her no matter what. . . he just wants her to be happy, and to succeed. There is no greater love than that. I love this song. Love it. Much love Maggie

I listened to this song alot before and after 9-11-01 and I can't help but see the parallels with that event... It makes me sad. I know it wasn' written about that, but to me it sounds like someone who lost a loved one in one of the towers.

this song came as an inspiration to me and my best friend when she moved. when i listen to it i am inspired to be there for my friend when she needs it, now that she's gone living her life i know that i won't be a big priority but who cares as long as she knows that i'm there if she needs me.

I actually don't think this is a parent/ kid song... it could be taken that way, but it's not what NC was saying... it's a love song that takes my breath away because the guy/gal is saying that no matter where the other goes, he or she will always be there "I'll be your solid ground"...

My favorite part of this song is definetly the bridge.. Your memory's the sunshine every new day brings I know the sky is calling Angel, let me help you with your wings The way the tempo of the the song slowly increases.. the lyrics.. his voice; it's beyond brilliant in every aspect. Everything agrees so wonderfully. Definetly the perfect song to listen to when you've let someone go. There's so many emotions that you go through in the experience, and this song covers all of them. Perfect and nothing less. Absolutely perfect.

To me, this song has really a really special meaning. It prolly isnt what Nickel Creek was trying to portray but this is just what i get out of it: My best friend (and former boyfriend) left for his life long dream of being in the Air Force and i had a really hard time with it. Then I heard this song and i was in tears because it really shows everything i was feeling. I am so proud of him, and miss him so much. But he calls me every weekend, and he knows that he always has me back home when things get tough. It was hard to watch him go, but I know that this is his dream and he is loving every minute of it. and he knows that I am always with him every time he goes up in the air! Sooooo yea, thats what that song means to me!~

For me, this song is about letting someone go. When you really care about someone and you love them enough you want to put their dreams ahead of your own selfishness. When you love someone enough you will realize what they want and let them go. "I'll still be there When you come back down" No matter what happens they'll still be waiting for their return and will take them back no matter what. Doesn't this sound like a parent and their child?

This song hits so close to home for me. This past summer I fell hard for someone much older than me. He was only around for the summer, working at my church, and when he left, he put on a small concert and played this song for me. The interpretation I have for the song is two people who are in love and one realizes that he's holding the other one back from reality and so he's telling her to go and experience life, but always to remember him. "When you're flying high, take my heart along." And that he'll always be there for her no matter what and that he's waiting on her. "I'll be the other hand that always holds the line, connecting in between your sweet heart and mine."

This song was written by Tim O' Brian, but Nickel Creek definately put it to good use. It definately make me think of a boy saying to a girl, who he loves, that he wants her to go on in life, even he won't be able to have her in his live any more. My greatest fear will be, that you will crash and burn, and I won't feel your fire This seems like she has a chance to do something big, and, even thought he's always backed her up, and he'll alwasy be listening for her call, that he fears her massing up, and his not being them to break her fall. All in all, the boy only wants he to be happy, even if he can't be there WILE she's happy. oh, and jwimmer, was your comment at all important to the subject of this song? At least the victim of your random rebukes POSTED an oppinion of the song!

surely one of my favorite songs... this song reminds me a lot of the famous quotes about letting go of love, and if it comes back, it truly was always yours to have, and if not, it never was. it's- to me- saying, i'm always going to support you, and i'll always leave the light on, but this may be your turn to shine, with or without me. my favorite line is also 'my greatest fear will be that you will crash and burn and i won't feel your fire.' i think that is similar to when you and another break off from your relationship, and then you will always support them, and when they get hurt, your not even so significant to them anymore that your support would make a difference in their healing and it's as if you can do nothing for them. for me, it's about possibly breaking your heart for the better life of another, or knowing that it's just time to move on even though you thought things were perfect.

I love this song so much. It reminds me of my best friend, we dated for awhile but we had very different dreams. Though we both loved each other we decided to go our seperate ways, and if its meant to be fate will bring us back together. ((And not to jinx anything, I just got transfered to a place not 20 minutes from where I hear he's living now))

I'm not sure if it was done this way. But on the CD if you listen to "Reasons Why" and then "When You Come Back Down" Which is the very next track, I think they are singing about the same thing. "Reasons Why" is just the girl's side of the story, telling her guy friend that she feels he's holding her back in life, and she need to go and do her own thing "Chase her own dreams". Then In "When You Come Back Down", It's the guy saying that If that's what she wants, then she has to go do what she thinks she has to do, And that he'll always be there for her if she does not succeed. To Catch her when she falls. They're both very pretty songs :)

I think this song can have many different meanings, but the one that hits home the most for me is that sometimes what you think is best isn't best. God will choose your path and it is your job to be there and support the dreams that He has for you.
