| There's only one remaining, but there's nothing left to do. World is dead and everthing has ended and the last one is damned to stay in this empty place for eternity. She show is over, the last one switches the light off. | |

| At least to me it sounds like/looks like a sever case of writers block "Time to lay this weary pen aside" that to me says: 'Okie so either the pen ran out of ink or I can't write anything thats me anymore' *shrugs* that's just my humble opinion | |

| .....Tuomas completely spoiled this song for me....I found an interview with him, I'll try to find the link, where he was talking about the song-writing process for Once. He said that he sat down, ready to write, and nothing came out. Pissed off, he jotted down whatever came to his head....And this was the result... Meh, I'll come up with my own, less mundane explanation.... | |

| I think Tuomas is speaking of a broken relationship or unrequited love from a few years beforehand, something that has fueled him to write many songs in the past and how he wishes to move on from it and feel/write about something else instead. It's a few years on and a lot of the painful emotions have now dulled over time, but nothing has replaced them and because he was so heavily invested in it he is left feeling barren, uninspired and empty. He knows that there is no way to get back what he had, and yet he cannot imagine a future without it either, so now that these feelings he had have withered away, he feels like the once blooming garden of love in his soul has become an empty barren wasteland. And now he has nothing to care for but the dead gardens inside his empty heart. I could be way off here, but I've been through a pretty similar thing and the lyrics reflect exactly what it felt like. If you've followed the Nightwish soap-opera of the last 18 months it seems to fit. Should be interesting to see what (or who) he writes about on the next album! www.myspace.com/themedreamer | |

| Its like she's come to the realization that life has no meaning without love. Most of the song sounds like she's depressed for some reason and thinks life is pointless. The poem at the end however makes me think she's just broken-hearted. | |
