X x
For whom the gun tolls
For whom the prey weeps
Bow before a war
Call it religion

Some wounds never heal
Some tears never will
Dry for the unkind
Cry for mankind

Even the dead cry
-Their only comfort
Kill your friend, I don`t care
Orchid kids, blinded stare

Need to understand
No need to forgive
No truth no sense left to be followed

"Facing this unbearable fear like meeting an old friend"
"Time to die, poor mates, You made me what I am!"

" In this world of a million religions everyone prays the same way"
"Your praying is in vain It`ll all be over soon"
"Father help me, save me a place by your side!"
"There is no god Our creed is but for ourselves"

" Not a hero unless you die Our species eat the wounded ones"

"Drunk with the blood of your victims
I do feel your pity-wanting pain,
Lust for fame, a deadly game"

"Run away with your impeccable kin!"

"- Good wombs hath borne bad sons..."
Cursing, God, why?
Falling for every lie
Survivors` guilt
In us forevermore

15 candles
Redeemers of this world
Dwell in hypocrisy:
"How were we supposed to know?"

4 pink ones
9 blue ones
2 black ones

Okay. I'm a bit of an expert on the shootings. Yes, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold said some of these things. "Good wombs hath borne bad sons" is a Shakespeare line quoted by one of the shooters in one of their home videos. Their parents had no idea what was going on. "How were we supposed to know?" Back then, who would think to check to see if your kids were making bombs? More in-depth analysis to come.

there are three people represented. father, singer, other ppl refered to. the other ppl are crippled, old, somehow useless to the system they are in. the girl is a virgin. the father is a father. (like preist father, not dad father) he probably kills the useless people and eats them, because now there is one less mouth to feed every time theres one less job to fill. these guys gete chomped, but not yet, it happens after the song. tarja (singer) is a virgin (my thoughts, not yours). when killing all htose people to make the group more efficient, they need to spill blood for the sake of their gods too (call it religeon -line 4) so they kill a virgin. shes like "I dont wanna die, this is crazy" and hes like "shut up, I dont care, the people I am about to kill were people that shaped me (friends, family, teachers, enemies, etc.) but im gonna kill them anyway, because this is how it is. It wasn't built around a tribute to shootings. its more of a dedication to something similar. 4 pink ones - 4 girls killed 9 blue ones - 9 boys killed 2 black ones - 2 murderers killed (just for the clear up) so the kids had the intension of making the people they killed heroes? no. and nobody, of the 24 injured, was eaten. dunno wat im missing, but nightwish should stick to cool demons / ghosts / angels / weird stuff. If i was killed by gunfire and was referenced to in a song, I wouldn't want my voice to be interprated by a singer that sings 10 octives higher than me. for the people killed, nobody deserves to die, but u should respect people more, and not out of fear either. and 4 the murderers, I know how it feels to be made fun of, but when I think about offing a bully, I decide to watch a funny movie instead :) and 4 nightwish... nice try, good intent, good song, bad idea. poseidon, you are a wise individual, you really know your stuff, and you will go far, but no matter how sad the story is, nightwish isnt the way to go.

I like the fact that Tuomas inserted lines that, supposedly, were spoken during the shooting. But I always thought that the "Dwell in hypocrisy/ How were we supposed to know?" lines were referring to the fact that parents take a hands-off approach to raising children, allowing them to be exposed (or perhaps more accurately: immersed) in a culture full of violence....And then when the children lash out violently, they claim that there was no way they could see it coming... I think my favorite lines are "Need to understand/ No need to forgive". Tuomas is trying to say that we should try to understand what drove these boys to such unrestrained violence, to try to prevent it happening again, but that we don't necessarily have to forgive them for it. Anyhoo, awesome song. Probably Nightwish's darkest subject matter yet.

Tarja sounds like shes orgasming when she sings this live. Well, at least in the video of the Kinslayer live anyway. And yes this song is about the Columbine shooting. The song actually ends after "How were we supposed to know" The candles part is just added as a tribute.

I think all metalheads can empathize with the killers of Columbine, at least a little. There isn't one of us who hasn't been the subject of some sort of bullying by jocks. And there isn't one of who hasn't dreamed about some type of vengeance/revenge on them(deny it all you want), whether it's just telling them off, punching one, or something more grandiose, like what the Redeemers planned.

To prevent confusion, the parts without brakets are sung by the lead singer. The braketed parts are the bacl vocals. This song was written for the Columbine Massacre. The title and lyrics are perfect to describe the victims, surviors and the murderers. The line about hipocrisy is for the people that blame violent videogames and heavy metal. These come from parents that bought they're children these things. Everything else is up to you.

Here are the lines that I thought could use some explaining. _______________________ "Bow before a war / Call it religion" Could be taken a few ways, but this war of theirs was as important to them as religion is to others. They were serious and devoted to it. As their war was not on religion, I don't think that's an option. _______________________ "Some wounds never heal / Some tears never will / Dry for the unkind / Cry for mankind" The survivors will undoubtedly never heal, but then again, the shooters themselves didn't recover from their proverbial wounds either. All parties involved felt pain. _______________________ "Need to understand / No need to forgive" Perhaps the most crucial line. We don't need to forgive their actions, but we must make an effort to try to understand why this happened. _______________________ "Facing this unbearable fear like meeting an old friend" They willingly walked into this horrible situation with no fear, like it was no big deal. _______________________ "Time to die, poor mates. You made me what I am." Part of an actual quote by a killer. Dylan Klebold said, "You made me what I am. You added to the rage." _______________________ "Good wombs hath borne bad sons..." Eric Harris quoted this Shakespeare line, trying to exonerate his parents. Harris and Klebold said repeatedly that they made sure there was no way for their parents to find out; that they were good parents who "bore bad sons."
