there you have it. even though a warm place was arranged for the
keyboard, it still sounds good in guitar. remember to print in
notepad for windows or ms-dos prompt so it would line up.

Here's the keyboard and guitar tablature for Nine Inch Nail's
A WARM PLACE from _The Downward Spiral_
Transcribed by: Andy Kershaw
^v^v^v^A Warm Place^v^v^v^
NIN

First this is the guitar part, played with an acoustic sound...

E:------------------------------------------------
B:------------------------------------------------
G:--------------3-------5-0-3---------------------
D:----------5-6---1-1---------1-------------------
A:--3-5-6-8---------------------------------------
E:------------------------------------------------

Listen to it on the CD _The Downward Spiral_ or the _Natural Born Killers_
soundtrack to get the timing right.

Now the synth part...
Again, listen on the CD to get the timing right. Use a warm organ-tpye
synth sound, played around mid to lower keyboard.
The first is all chords:
D minor
C major
A# major
F major
Then the second part is first single notes, then progresses to chords...
It goes:
G
F
G
F
G (hold)
F (hold)
D#
Then you play:
G
A#
D#
Then play these chords
G minor
A# major
D# major
This should get you through the song. Again, if you've never heard it before
I'd advise you listen to it and get a feel for it.

its the reverse of closer and the downward spiral on the same ablum. In relation to the whole album, is meant to represent the human part of the mind haeping the man in the story make the right choice. Throughout the whole album, the character defied god, killed god, then became god, through sexual and violent acts ("you get me closer to god") As the mechanical voice inside his head tries to take over him and control him, this song reflects where the machine could not reach, could not control . A warm place inside you that reminds you that there is a place inside you that nobody can reach, and nobody can take away from you, the peace and calm in your heart that will stay with you forever. This is the turning point in the album - just as the mechanical side of the mind starts to take over control, the character realises that he can still make a choice to save his soul - death By eraser, he wants death, in reptile, he wants to feel emotion.by the downward spiral, the mechanical side takes over, but as it does, he takes a gun to his head, to save others, and to save himself. oh and it has lyrics (in the first fifteen seconds or so "The best thing about liife is knowing you put it together" is repeated over and over)

IT HAS LYRICS! As the last person way above said it repeats the same thing over and over in the very first 15 seconds of the song. BUT It's barely audiable...it's almost whispered. But there ARE lyircs to this. "The best thing about life is knowing you put it together..." is repeated a bunch of time..very VERY quietly at the begining untill the instrumentals of the song kick in. You'll barely notice them...thus why this has been dubbed an instrumental.

This song to me represents the deepest of isolation, and makes me remember a time in my life where I wanted to kill everyone. a tought time in my life indeed, that is why I can barely listen to this album anymore it makes me remember a part of my life I dont want to.

This song is about hope, but man almighty, this song gives me the damn chills. Its just so eerie and depressing.

I listen to it to relax. Generally, the uneducated radio listener thinks of hard industrial rock when they hear about NIN. This is a departure, a break for the listener, and a break in reality for the character of the album as Numpty described.

And furthermore this song is pretty much a knockoff of the David Bowie song "Crystal Japan", infact, it's almost precise. But has a few noticible differences, but if you've heard it, you can def. tell the similarities, which there are many.

Though i must agree that this has certain similiarities with "Something I Can't Never Have" but A Warm Place is a hell lot a more delighting to hear, because "sicnh" is kinda scary.

I really like the numpty's analysis. Even though it doesn't have any *audible lyrics, I think this is the saddest song on the album, next to Piggy.

there's a version i heard on this online game "Super Columbine Massacre RPG" (i know you think its sick but its the fuckin' internet) and there's this part when you go to Eric's basement and this song begins to play but it's a different version and i've always wondered what the fuckin' song was! and when i heard this song that luckily i only happened to download i got gigantic tears streaming down my face. I dont know why i think it has a really depressive, scary and haunting tune like "something i can never have".

No you dumbfucks you've got it all wrong! This song is not meant to be any kind of depressive or hauntin! The actual meaning to this song is, that everyone knows the storyline of the downward spiral? So this was a turningpoint, where the main character of the whole album realizes that the machine has not totally taken over him/her, and thus the character also realizes that he can save himself/herself and everyone other by killing him/herself. So the point is: THIS SONG IS NOT MEANT TO BE FUCKIN SPOOKY OR SCARY.

Talk about uncomfortable silence. This song is that defination. (I'm aware there is sound you twits.) "The best thing about life is knowing you put it together..." Talk about some serious shit. If only I could write something like that, so simple and small, yet so underminded. great way to open up Eraser. Don't you love the way Trent blends all the songs together? Everytime I listen to TOOL or NIN, its like watching a movie. Hardly anyone else does that for some reason... It makes the cd less boring.

This is a really bittersweet song. It can either really uplift me or depress me, but all in all, it's really beautiful. One of the many greats Trent's produced. ^^
