not sure how anyone can get the lyrics wrong. there in the damn cd booklet. "you found ur god in a paper back, u get ur history from the union jack." "fed up with life in the city, cause all the phonies have blown my mind." "Cause it's all mine" i mean come on, thier printed in the cd booklet. for the song, fuckin awesome, not quite oasis of old, but not supposed to be, very sophisticated.

The album certainly is quite good, and this is one of the best tracks. I'd bashed it before, but nonetheless I guess "Don't Believe The Truth" is a grower. For me, the songs are best when you're actually listening to them. As for the meaning... well, it's apparently modeled after Bob Dylan, so probably it has no actual meaning, but the word "phonies" suggests "Catcher In The Rye," and certain other bits help it out, but it's too upbeat. So it has no meaning.

this is the ONLY oasis song that i don't enjoy... But i'd like to state how its such a shame that oasis isn't big in the U.S, I'm prolly the only person in my city who listens to thier music

Bit of a blatent rip off of I'm Beginning To See The Light by The Velvet Underground but frankly I just don't care. A brilliant song from a brilliant album.

Not the best Oasis song ever...in fact probably the worst, dont understand why they always play it live. would of been better if liam sung it in my opinion. and the intro is a razorlight song from their first album, cant think of the name of it right now though...

This song rocks...plain and simple. Didn't like it that much first listen but it grew on me...which was a good sign as most Oasis songs that I love usually take a few listens for me to really love (Supersonic, Acquiese, Rock 'n' Roll Star) so it's a promising return to form :)

Am I the only one who thinks this is strongly about religion? Here, I'll even take you through the theory: The first lines: "I know you think you deserve an explanation on the meanings of life." A reference to religion and the way it tries to uncover the mysteries of our existence through faith in a higher being. It implies that the religion, the Church perhaps, is searching futilely for some proof of what they believe at no matter what cost. "But what you think that you heard slipped away out the back of your mind." A reference to maybe a religious experience or something happening that is considered holy, but has been forgotten through all the lies and deceit by the Church (mentioned further in the song). "You get your truth from the lies you were learned." People brought up to believe in religion the way it is now. This lyric is basically calling it utter lies masquerading as truth. "Your plastic believers". The followers of a religion who have lost track of what their morals and beliefs are supposed to be. "Tying up your buttons and bows" refers to what priests wear. Another religious reference. "Face your disease". Face how religion has spread throughout the world like a disease, the consequences of which people have to face each day? It causes wars and stuff, so the disease analogy also makes sense when thought of that way. "You found your God in a paperback." Pretty simple. Refers to the Bible and undermines the power of it, calling it a basic "paperback" like any other novel. "Brothers and sisters" could be a pun because nuns take the title of "sister", etc. "All the phoneys" are the people who think they're hardcore Christians but are only "phoney" because they don't actually know what they're blindly following any more. Finally, maybe "Cos it's all mine!" shows how Noel, or whichever person he's singing as, is rejecting the morals and principles and is living for himself. What do you think? Yes? No? Indifferent?
