I'm glad you all like the song. Before Oasis, there was a band called Ride. Andy Bell was the principal songwriter in that band. Andy Bell wrote this song "turn up the sun." Enough said. He is a great man.

Glad ive got the honour of sticking the first comment on for this song (unless some bellend is writing a comment right now..) Anyway, what a brilliant fucking song. First verse doesnt look that good on paper but when you hear the opening line you just know you got a great song. Was a bit scared this album would be shite, but this song has the same effect Rock n Roll star has on DM, just a brilliant first song for an album, gets you right up for it. Meaning? a bit different, seems like Liam is a moody fecker but is telling sdome bright spark to lighten up, not to take what he does as offensive and just keep smiling, light up everyone elses life because he cant do it himself. Ah fuck it I dunno the meaning, someone else can post that, this is just a brilliant sonmg. end of. (shame mucky fingers follows it...)

A beginning of summer song, expressions of relief and welcoming? Great song, great album.

It's good, but how do you dare compare it to "Hello", which is such a classic by now???

the_cage..you seem to hate alot of oasis songs..but like a few..why? lol you act like the personal critic of oasis, almost every song has a "predictable chord progression"... this is just a short little rocking opener for the best oasis album made this WTSMG.

This song is just stunnin'. The lyrics are just average but they go on pretty good with the rythm. I think it's best gig opener song that Oasis had ever, it just rocks. Somebody asked up there that which song was better in order to open a gig, if it was 'Hello' (from WTSMG?) or 'Turn Up The Sun', i would answer 'Turn Up The Sun' definetely, it's much more powerful although 'Hello' is an average tune when its sang by Liam Noel made it a truly great tune when he performed it at the MTV acoustic set in '96 if you hadn't the chance to listen to it, download it now!

Who was at Milton Keynes on the Saturday in July? What song did they open with then? Was still the nuts! Beer, the hottest day of the year and the best band in the world. Can you get any better? Great song and I think it is a summer song which can make you jump around your room!

Anyway i think Hello is better, and u forgot 2 mention The Hindu Times, another gig opener. This song talks about religion, it talks in first person how a profet can be. "i carry the madness everywhere i go" may ppl would think hes crazy "love one another, love one another" 11th catolic rule "the boys in the bubble, they wanna be free and they got so blind that they cannot see but i’m not your keeper, i don’t have yer key" ppl r blind, they dont c da truth "i got a piano, i can't find the C" dis guy doesnt kno where 2 start. this are just my thougths. PD: second song wouldve been Lyla, hear it, it matches, even rythm sounds great when u hear "Turn up the sun" and then Lyla PD:Oasis r0cKs

The meaning of this song to me is purely musical. From 2:45 to 3:16 there is a fake outro. Why they decided to continue after that, I don't know. But it is fucking brilliant. I have a feeling Noel was responsible for that part. Unless you particularly appreciate melody, guitar solos, etc. I can see why you would have a hard time getting into this song.
